| I am currently trying to season my mare. She is doing a great job so far, more of a free-running style for sure. She is starting to look for the barrels and rate much better. However, I just don't know if this bit I am using is right for her. It's a just a smooth 2 piece junior cow. I am wondering what bits you guys use or suggest? I thought about trying a professionals choice futurity bit, but not sure if that wouldn't be much different? I need some woah since she is a free runner, but I usually prefer 3 piece bits. Just please let me know what bits you guys like the best! My gelding is easy and just runs in an o-ring snaffle lol. |

Can you be specific about what problems you are currently having with your current bit? Is she not rating for her barrels? (since you say she needs "woah") |

She has been rating much better, but I still want a bit that has some woah in case I need it. I just am not convinced this is the right bit for her. Maybe it's too soon to judge since she isn't totally seasoned yet. |

| I don't get much feel with a junior cow horse bit. Usually put something to get more flex. A Kathy James bit comes in several different mouthpieces if u feel like u need more control |

Location: Oklahoma | I'm not a trainer, but I can't live without my Ed Wright Pretzel bit. I like the feel of the longer shank/purchase and it gives me a little more control when my free-runner is a bit fresh. Ed Wright and Carol Goosetree bits are my "go to" for most of my horses. |

Location: LouLouVille, OK | I usually end up in a Jr cowhorse lol... but if I am running in a big outdoor, I do like the lite lifters, they have a 3 piece and they come in different shanks and purchases. To me they are alot like the Jr Cowhorse, but don't have any gag. I can say a friend told me to try a Grasshopper, the chain mouth of Charmaynes... I normally dont get along chain mouthpieces, but this bit has a ton of feel and response. JMHO Rate is better taught at slower speeds rather then bigger bits.. Good luck! |
