Today is
My 3 year old practically cut through his tongue by stepping on his reins after he pulled away from me. Vet said too late to repair and they usually do fine and it heals quickly but its really bad. I wondered if any of you have had this experience? how did it heal? did you have to use a Hackamore the rest of their careers??
I had a horse cut his tongue pretty bad and in about 2 weeks it was completely healed up. I gave him a few days off and then started riding him in a hackmore just to keep him in shape. After the 2 week period, I reintroduced a bit to his mouth and he didn't have any issues. It is miraculous how quickly their tongues heal.
I sent you a FB msg. You have a friend who this happened to, and I think it was pretty old.
(I hope I have the right name with the pseudo).
We had 2 yr old that. My husband had just started breaking him. THe vet said it would heal up much quicker than wounds the skin and she was right. It was cut almost half into. It healed up very nicely We waited about 6 months before using a bit on him. He is 12 now and hasn't ever had any problems with it
Update! It's been a month it completely healed on its own but now has a sort of valley where scar will be. Turns out I like him better in a hack and I probably wouldn't have tried one so there y'all go! All things work together for good!
That's great! Thank you for the update
