I recently purchased a yearling...first timer over here!   (whole life horse owner, just never purchased/owned anything this young)

Tell me, how do you all go about introducing a yearling to two older (later teens) geldings? I've had the yearling almost a week - he's been in the stall with fans while im at work but out in the round pen or hand grazed after i get home (i figure that would be good bonding time if nothing else) 

I do have a small lot that backs up to the geldings pasture where they would safely be able to "meet" ..... i guess the thought of putting him out with the big boys makes me nervous - mainly worried about him getting hurt. 

He is still intact, I plan to have those removed in fall once the temps get cooler and the flies arent so bad. 

How long would you all wait until he's big pasture ready? 

Also, what are you all feeding/avoiding feeding yearlings for best nutrition?

Introduce one at the time. 

+1 I would introduce 1 at a time in the round pen. 

Then 1 at a time in the pasture. 

I would put them across then fence for a few days, first.  Then put them in the stall, introduce the colt to the new surroundings by himself for 20/30 minutes.  Then lead the more passive horse in on a leadrope.  Let the baby come to him, that way you can control things.  After a few minutes, release gelding, if all went well.  Then bring in the second horse on a leadrope.

That's how I do it anyway.

Just an update : little "Gordy" was introduced slowly over the past two weeks and he's now been fully accpeted by "the big kids"
