So I was just watching a video about loosenort landry saddles and was wondering if anyone has ever ridden in one? If so how do they ride?

Looking for suggestions as well for my lovely, wide appendix bred mare.... I have tried sevens (which fit her good, but there is just something holding me back from ordering), tami semas wide (fit her great, never rode in it. Tried it on at a barrel race), caldwell (wrong gullet but i didnt like the way it rode.), double j pozzi wide (again tried on, looks like it fit but never rode in it.) and shes currently in a sibley thats older and stretched out ( love this saddle but its a tad bit tight in shoulders, and when coming into a barrel my feet are getting behind me

Shes 15.3 and built wide and shes 5 so she may get even bigger. Any suggestions are helpful!!!

I had one for a little bit, but what saddle haven't I had?  Haha  In all seriousness, the saddle was much too narrow for the elephant of a mare I had at the time and sat up on top of her like a little top hat and kind of rolled around.  I never could get a feel for it due to that, but there wasn't enough saddle there for me if I remember correctly.  I like a little taller front end and cantle than what the Landry Loosenort saddle offered.  I definitely don't like to be locked in there like the Seven Safe Tree, but I do like the way the regular Seven with the penscil roll rides, just for comparison.  That being said, I can't get into a lightweight either....I think at the end of the day i'm a leather snob.  The Landry/Loosenort was a nice made saddle and the friend of mine that bought it absolutely loves it.

As far as a neutral (as far as where it hangs your feet), yet secure ride, I have really enjoyed the Lynn Mckenzie Wide that I have now.  Mine has the comfort cantle and the half inch taller pommel and hangs your leg straight under your hip and keeps it there.  I have always had a tendency to get my feet behind me as well and have ridden larger seated cutting type saddles to keep my foot a little forward, but I don't have that issue in the LM.  I also like how the rigging is set up in the Lynn.  It pulls both the front and back of the tree down similar to how the Seven is rigged, but you have three different options of how to attach your latigo, which has helped me on my long shouldered, short backed horse and makes the saddle fit very balanced.  Unfortunately as I get older, my horses get taller and narrower and my butt gets bigger and wider, so now I have to find this saddle a new home and replace it with a larger tree for me and a smaller tree for my horse.

Thank you so much for your honest opinion on them!!! My mare is a wide load so that will not work for her. I will add a photo in the next post so it may be easier to see. Although its not a front picture.

I did try the seven safe tree and do like it on her as it kept me more secure (shes also a 5 yr old and can be a drunken bumblebee sometimes lol) Im not so much a leather snob but there is just something. Although i may order either a mix or a plantinum just because i can get it in the 8 in gullet and i have ridden in one, whereas I have never really rode her in any of the others. But I will look into those saddles as well! Its hard to figure a saddle off a picture though and although many people have different saddles, i havent been able to ride in any of the others.

She's a cutie!  Just another thing, and this is just my opinion, in looking at your mare, she looks to me like she has a really nice back.  Not freakishly wide, but definitely not narrow and doesn't have a ton of drop to her back, which is a great thing.  I would steer clear of a wider gullet.  The wide gullets are just going to make your saddle ride downhill and roll even more.  The issue you're likely running into is that the trees have too much rock to them front to back, therefore the main contact point is right under where you sit.  A wider gullet will only make that issue worse and make your saddle ride downhill all while putting more pressure right behind the shoulder and under where you sit.  If you can find someone with a wide Lynn Mckenzie, I definitely think it's worth putting on her.  The gullet is narrower, but the bar angle is nice and wide, therfore making even contact down the back and not placing all that weight right at the front of the saddle.  Also with the 3 way rigging on those saddles, it pulls more evenly as well.

I also think pad choice makes a huge difference with the lightweights.  I have a BE (Better Equine) pad that has a similar cut to a saddleright.  I love it under the lightweights.  I've never been able to fall in love with a 5 star on anything personally.  My saddles always roll with 4 stars.  I'd go with something with a fleece underside as that will eliminate alot of the movement you may have.  The BE pads are pretty awesome with a lightweight or a saddle that is a touch too wide, but they are super expensive as well.  Just a little more food for thought.

Best of luck to you in your search.  It's frustrating not to be able to keep your saddle where it belongs and not feel secure.

Thank you! that makes alot of sense and really helped me visualize what i need to be able to fit her.  I do ride her in a saddleright pad so its not too thick.

Also, i was able to try a paul taylor (which fit ok) and a burns wide (didnt fit at all. stuck up in back while looking ok in front) this weekend. Saddle fit is such a tricky thing but i am lucky to have people that allow me to at least try them on her.
