| A 10-year-old all-around mare who has a moderate work schedule. Sometimes is required to make multiple runs over a weekend. I currently give polyglcan 5cc once a month IV to help her joints. ( yes, i understand this is NOT FDA-approved) she sees a chiro, vet, and dentist so all is good at the moment. I would really like to add adequan to her maintenance. how many times a year should I do a loading dose? Once or twice? iv been told 2 different things. thinking i could continue with poly and add in adequan to aid in preventing what are you guys giving pre run/ race day to ensure they feel the best ? |

Legend is IV and I give it 12 hours out / day before a run. It only lasts about 3 days really but some vets give it monthly and say it lasts longer. |

We are not talking drugs in the sense your thinking . These products to support joints have ingredients that the body makes on its own anyway just not in the quantity that a performance horse needs. HA, chondroitan , glucosamine , etc. your statement is uneducated and missing the point . And yep, to be honest , horses were not designed to be performance horses. They were supposed to eat drink and die naturally. The things we ask them to do are not natural . I will use whatever drug/ therapy my vet suggests to keep them comfortable so they can do what I ask of them absolutely . |

I wish I could take adaquan for the arthritis in both my knees. I do get injected for it by my orthopedic every 3 months. I also take ibuprofin daily. Adaquan, legend, summit, they are all injections for horses joints just like the injections I get for my knees. They are not performance drugs. |

| I've used adequan in the past but did it monthly after a loading dose. This was per my vets suggestions and what she thought would be most beneficial. He's had a lot of time off from "performing " and just now getting legged back up to start again. You can bet your butt I will be putting him on something again to keep him comfortable. I haven't sat down and come up with a game plan with my vet just yet. |

Oh wow! Joint supplements that are given IM or IV instead of feeding them so the actually work is NOT drugging! Google Justin Robinson and his cronies, Diaz, Carrizales etc. Horse winning races and having to be literally pushed into the winners circle because they can barely walk. Calling everything given via a needle "drugging to win" is seriously taking the heat off the real cheaters, kinda like calling everyone you disagree with a racist. Lasix, banamine, omeprazole and yep, even clenbuterol are great drugs that used properly, keep our awesome athletes healthy and happy. Quit judging and fight the real fight against actual abusers, this OP is just trying to help her horse stay happy and sound, kudos to her for asking about others pre race routines. |
