Anyone here run straight cow/cutting/reining bred horses in the barrel pen and had success? What are the lines you've had the most success with?

Looking at a prospect that has the above sire and dam.

I'm not super educated on those lines so any insight would be appreciated!

I've always been a fan of peptoboonsmal and dual ray bred horses. Previous dual ray horses I have had, always needed a job, but they were great all around horses

This will be the first straight cow bred horse I've ever owned! I'm excited to venture into something different.

I run a cow bred mare. She's only 14 hands and still getting seasoned but she's run 2D times at super shows, has run a few 1D times locally and if I could get out of my head and jockey better she would probably do that more consistently ??, usually running in the 2D. She's by a Greys starlight/ Doc Olena stud and out of  Smart Little Lena/ Reminic mare. I absolutely adore her personality and she's super athletic.

I traded out all my barrel-bred horses and now only have cow-bred.  I may have lost a little speed, but I gained in every other category.

but wowzers is all i can say - i showed her the pattern at home couple weeks ago (walk and trot) hauled her to 2 races so far bc i have another horse i am running - trotted one exhibition and this lil filly was like "here hold my beer and watch this" she took off loping and picked up correct leads and is inhaling the turns like nobodys business!!!!!!!

OVER ACHIVER -> she is gonna do big things and she is only 4 and 13.3hds

Top side is The Boon and bottom is Dual Rey

When I lived in TX loping cutters years ago we had colts directly sired by Dual Rey and TR Dual Rey both, and I'd have done some sketchy things to get them to let me take some of them to the barrel pen. Peptoboonsmal was just down the road and I saw quite a few of his colts too, I liked them. But I'm a huge fan of the DR line

I don't know about her/him making a barrel horse, but bet that horse will watch a cow with that very nice breeding. Straight Silver was at the 6666 and for years was the foundation of all their ranch horse geldings and they had pretty good size and feet. They sold the mares. I did some work down there with Ray Hunt and really liked the ranch horses in general while we were there. We have owned DR horses and really liked them, but they do not handle grain well and do best on a forage based no grain diet. A lot of the rest of the two bloodlines are a who's who list. Should be a lot of talent there.

I have trained several 1D cowbred horses and my favorite lines are Dual Rey and Highbrow Cat.  The Peptos are athletic but sometimes didn't have quite the run I wanted (just my own personal experience) but with that cross, he should be just fine! The Dual Reys can be a little quirky but can flat out fly.  I really like that cross!
