Just wondering if any of you work for Edward Jones.  My mom has a friend who's son and husband work for them and her friend works as a temp. secretary when their main ones are gone and has now taken a full time job with them.  My mom went to look at temping and is working 1-2 days a week making a little over $12.00 an hour.  She works 8am-4:30pm which are hours that I can deal with but said I may have a problem getting hired because I dont know alot about stocks and bonds(stressed the MAY). Iv got a 2yo and Im in school at night but truthfully if I can get hired on for that money I will take a break from school.  My husband's Army pay is just not enough for us and right now if I were to take a p/t job making minimum wage it wouldn't cover daycare expenses. I dont have alot of work experiences as what jobs Iv had Iv stayed at for quite awhile and Im only 24. Im pretty knowledgable about computers.  No expert by anymeans but I can find my around.  I worked as a assistant back in High School doing computer data input and filing in a Gov. organization that deals with FEMA and other non-profit things. That was quite awhile ago though.  Ill talk to my mom about it more when I go to Texas (Im going down for 2 weeks since we are moving in June I need to go to Louisiana and check things out).  THere are 4 EJ locations within 20 mins of Ft. Polk I do know that.

Does anyone have anymore info. or suggestions?

If you have temp services around your town apply at all of them and you can train on their computers and programs!!At least that's how it works here in SA ...that's how I got the job I'm at

I hate to admit it but Dollbaby has good advice!  (there I said it, it's out in the open now - she does sometimes have good ideas).

will they require any special licensing like a Series 6 or Series 7, or strictly computer type stuff?   If one is required, get prepared to study more than you do in college...   That's about the hardest exam I've ever taken..

My personal recommendation is to stay in school....if at all possible!!!

I don't now about the company, but my neighbor works for a lady that runs one of the E-J's here.  I guess you own them, are they franchises?  Anyways, she was telling me a while ago that they hired a girl to do work that sounds similar to yours, and she knew practically nothing about computers, and had to be trained to know the difference between a bond and a mutual fund.  She is still there, doing pretty well last I heard.  I know that this is out here in CA, and one person, so it may not help you, but oh well.  :) I'd give it a shot.

There are branches all over the US.  There are 8 just in the Dallas area within 30 mins of my mom's house.  They trained her for free (took 3 days I beleive).   What I dont know is if the fact Im not familiar with the stocks and bonds part may not get me a job.  Im in school for Early Childhood Development and I do like the degree BUT Im beginning to second guess the whole aspect of it as Im great with the kids but not really a people person.  It takes alot of dedication to be a teacher and the last thing I want is to find myself in a job I wont be happy with in a couple of years do to not very good pay which is just the tip of the iceburg(teaching isn't for everyone and I applaud those who do).  Id like something as a back up and was hoping to get my degree in early childhood and then go back and get a BA in business. Not to mention sense we are moving, the branch of school I go to (Central Texas College) is also at Fort Polk but the schedule is totally different.  They offer two classes a semester for my degree (as they do here) but the problem is that because they are on a different schedule it could be up to 6 months before they offer the classes I need again.  I was suppose to graduate in Dec/Jan time frame but it will probually be end of NEXT year before Im able to finish with the contridicting schedule. I hope that makes sense.  Already have to have student loans to pay what the grant doesn't pay and I can only imagine by the time Im getting my 4 year degree, I wont beable to afford to go enless I have a loan to pay full tuition due to each year my husband's pay increases which gives me less amount of money for my grant.  Last year grant paid $500 of my schooling...This year with my husband whole $100 raise (per year thats not 100 a month) Im now only getting $350 grant.  Tuition for 2 classes is $600.00.
