Just found some Canine Cush-X from Hiltons...

I am going to try to manage it with diet and herbal

I just don't want the pharmacy route because of side effects and such.....

I think I would take the same route. How did you suspect Cushings?

Could you adjust the dosage of the Pituitary from Silverlining and give it to your pooch?

I know I am not suppossed to cry over her or at least let her know it as it only depresses them.... but it hard sometimes not to just sit with her and cry....

But on a bright note she did go with me to the barn to feed tonight and was a little perky!!! but it totally drained her.

Just like kids, sometimes I think maybe harder, especially when they've been part of the family for so long and then become feeble.  My old Sloan, beagle bassett mix, had her for 19 years when she got glaucoma (she was my first daughter).  Now you've got me grabbing the kleenex!

SG, here's some info I found about diet...hope it helps

The only dietary recommendations I can find are in Small Animal Clinical Nutrition III by Morris, et. al. It says to feed a high protein, low fiber, low fat, low purine diet. It suggests that it is important not to oversupplement calcium. It is also important to make sure potassium levels are adequate and that sodium is not restricted in any way if mitotane (o'p'DDD) is being used to treat the hyperadrenocorticism. Also, it is important not to restrict water intake, as you might imagine. Feeding Hill's i/d diet is one way to meet the requirements for these things. One of the book's authors is the son of the veterinarian who founded Hill's, so there may be a little bias in the recommendations, at least as to the
recommended diet.
