I was washing my palomino's tail today, and I came across a lump at the end of her tail bone.  It was covered with white crust.  After gently peeling the crust off, the lump it about the size of a silver dollar, oblong in shape, and lumpy.  She has also lost the hair in that particular spot, but it doesn't seem to bother her any.

Has anybody experienced this before, and could it be cancerous?  I have a vet appointment next week but was looking to see if anybody could fill me in until then.  Thank You.

I have horses that will rub their tails, and since this is the time of year they are shedding here, I notice little bumps, nothing really with a scab, did you vet seem to think it was a big deal?

I have an appointment next week to have her looked at.  I had my neighbor look at her though, and he mentioned that he had a gray mare with the same thing all over her tail bone.  (this was years ago)  His vet told him that it was the same as a human having those pre-cancerous scaly spots that the Dr freezes off. (lighter colored horses are more prone to it)  She's not really a 'tail-rubber', so I don't know what to think.
