| HI all! I need some help for my dog! I havent posted in a looong time. i think last time was in 2020 when we had evac from fires! then I got MS and Lupus and its been snowball since! Now my dog has Addisons -the vet said. So yesterday we got the DOCP shot done and shes on prednisolone. But her appetite is still low. At least its better than 0. I had to syringe food and liquid to her for a week to keep her alive, plus do SQ hydration. Anyways what ideas or recipes do you have I could try to entice her appetite?? Right now I can only get her to eat greek yogurt and venison. I normally fed what I thought was good dog food but now I dont know! I normally feed Sportmix, wholesomes, and sometimes diamond or loyall.
6-10-25 She is doing well, gained weight and coat coming back thicker and glossier. She is eating a higher quality food I got off chewy, just for her though too expensive to feed them all that kind!

Location: Kansas | Sometimes human baby food can be helpful with sick dogs or cats. Sorry about your dog. My old heeler got very sick a few weeks ago. I woke up misty-eyed one morning having made the decision to put him down. Somehow he had gotten better overnight and finally ate. He loves the Blue Buffalo wet dog food and the Cesars little containers for small dogs. Like you it was "whatever you want" please just eat. He's fine now. Good luck !!! |

Location: Illinois | I don't have any experience with dogs with Addisons, but I have had to concoct some creations to get a sick dog to eat before. I've had pretty good luck with pumpkin puree, brown rice, & meat of choice mixed together, if they'll eat it with some tiny carrot pieces or green beans mixed in even better. I have also added some scrambled egg on occaison. Even if they don't eat a ton, they usually will eat a couple bites & it stays good for a couple days in the fridge. I just warm it up a little at a time before feeding. |

| thank you for your replies. I bought some super high quality food from chewy and shes eating it!! I cant believe it yay! Shes perking up and working cows now. I'm so happy....I will do my best to keep her going but I probably can't afford another addisons crisis. If it happens I may just put her down so she is not suffering. I'm so sad, Shes my best cow dog. I am going to get another pup to train asap. |

We have two little Morkies that didn't have any real problems but were terrible eaters. We have had them on Dr Marty food for 3 years and even the vet remarks about their health. They eat it with no problems and they are very picky eaters. It's an expensive, I think anyway, food. But we have found it to well worth the price. |

Location: Usa | Venison and Greek yogurt? Your dog’s eating better than I am. But seriously, try some dog-safe baby food (Gerber turkey is a hit), warm bone broth, or scrambled eggs. Basically, you’re running a 5-star kitchen for a very picky, very sick customer. And of course, she’s the boss |

| I'll have to look up that Dr Marty's food. thanks for the suggestions. Actually we kill our own deer so it was mine that I shot last fall so I didnt mind sharing it to keep her alive. She would not touch broth, I did have to syringe it to her 3 x day at the beginning. She was pretty messed up. She should have been in the pet hospital for but there isn't one locally - they let me take her home and I gave her SQ fluids to keep her hydrated- she would not drink for 5 days. She was very close to dying. Which if nature would have taken its course she would have been culled out. but I chose to save her- at least for a while. Her future is uncertain though, as this disease sounds like it can plummit at any moment. So I am going to have to get another pup and train it. I sure have never had a dog with such a big issue! And we've had alot of dogs with lots of other problems lol. |

Location: Usa | Oh wow, you’ve been through so much, and now Addisons on top of it all. Glad she’s taking something, Greek yogurt and venison sound like a win right now. You might try adding a bit of warmed bone broth or baby food (the meat kind, no onions or garlic) to tempt her further. Rooting for both of you. |
