If a mare is suffering from ovarian issues, I've noted most often that they will become aggressive or irritable, they have irregular heat cycles, will start bucking, tail swishing, lose weight or have a dramatic change in body condition.  The most common ovarian issue is GCT, which is usually benign but causes behavioral changes.  A hematoma or cystic ovary can also cause discomfort and irregular heat cycles.  Surgical removal of an affected ovary is typically recommended especially for tumors such as GCT.  Regumate can be used, but it will only manage symptoms and will not solve the issue. Most mares will have significant improvement in behavior after the problematic ovary is surgically removed.
