Location: Wisconsin | DITTO to the Saddleright Pads!!!!!! I had a Charmayne pad also for about 5 months and sold it, didn't like it at all under my saddles. Seemed to pack down, but this could be just MY experience and not others. I now have 2 Saddleright's and wouldn't switch to anything else.............. |

Location: NY | Really!! I have a friend who bought one at an auction it was used and kind of old, but cheap she needed one quick, it wasnt too bad, was the shoulder part where it got flat? I thought that would happen so instead of buying the regular one i bought the ortho sport. |

Location: WA | I am looking for a new pad, so I figured this may be a good place to ask right now. I have a Saddle King barrel saddle that fits my mare well. I have set it on her without a pad and can step on her without it slipping or sliding. I ride her in a fleece pad, but don't like it and want to find a nice pad now that I have a couple extra bucks. The saddlerights look good but a little spendy for what I have even with the extra dough right now. She sweats even except for right below her withers on each side. There will be about a 4x5 inch dry spot. Am I setting the saddle too far forward possibly? She rides well and doesn't seem to get sore. I was wondering if a thick wool pad would work well? Any ideas, just fire away! |

Location: Buffalo, TX | I use a Saddleright, but I have question maybe someone can answer too. I saw a pad advertised and now I can't remember what it was. The pad had a built up area on top of the pad in the front and back, and then a shallowed out part in the center for the middle of the saddle so it didn't have as much contact with the horse's back. I'm thinking it was either a Tod Sloan pad or a Dale Martin, or someone like that. Has anyone seen this advertised and remember who makes them. It's a brand new concept, just out in the last couple of months. Thanks. |

Location: Midwest USA | Ed Wright wool pad is great!!! www.edandmartha.com go to their pad to order one or call them. i have had one for a little over a year and it still looks brand new and it really is nice. I had the charmayne james pad too and didn't like it at all. . . |

The way I understand it, dry spots actually indicate proper saddle fit, as long as the dry spots are of uniform size on each side of the withers and as long as the dry hair is laying flat and not messed up. Maybe someone else will know more about this, but that is what I was told from someone who spoke to Tod Slone about saddle fit... I use a saddleright on my hard to fit horse and Tod Slones on everything else. Those are my favorites after much MUCH trial and error (expensive trial and error....) |

Location: missouri | I haven't used the Charmayne pad, but I do love my Todd Slone and Ed Wright pads. I must be the only person who did not like the Saddle Right pad. I tried it for awhile and just didn't care for it. JMO. |

| Sorry to be different.....but I'm with Missouri......I had a saddleright pad I did not care for either. I really tried to like it, but just didn't. Used it on several different horses, and with diff saddle combos. Am using a Tod Sloan 3/4" and it is the best pad I have ever used (imo)......so good thing we all like different things, or there would only be one saddlemaker and padmaker in business.....hehee. I didn't have any trouble with a Charmayne pad, just made me nervous being thin and all.  |

Location: Woodstown, NJ | Someone just told me that small dry spots mean a saddle fit problem and large dry spots mean a pad problem. I did not like the old Professional Choice pad because it fell apart, mostly in the middle, but became lumpy all over. I like Tod Slone the best. It is a simple, 100% wool felt and it is contoured to fit your horse's back. It is cut out over the withers. Comes in 1/2 ", 3/4" and 1" but I prefer the 1/2". No gimmicks, just a good working pad at a decent price. |
