My treed saddle is causing my horse's lower back to be sore (above the kidneys). The treeless saddle does not make her sore however I not fond of it. What are my other options?

Could it be pinching in the wither area causing it to push on her lumbar area??

I would make sure it's not the hocks making the loin sore. That's what happened to me. Thought it was the saddle, but got him injected and his back went back to being fine.

Just a thought. Could certainly still be your saddle lol

I had the same problem. I HATED riding in a BM, but my horse liked it. He won the state NBHA title a couple weeks after I switched to the BM, then almost $15K in the next 6 months, so I learned to like it pretty darn quick, LOL.

If it was in her hocks, would her back have been sore before I started riding her?

Could be, it's worth looking at with soreness that far down in the back.

Can you post pictures of your treed saddle on her? It likely doesn't fit and that's the core of your issue, not the fact that it has a tree.

I have nothing against treeless saddles if they truly work for the horse and rider. Fitters I've talked with and worked with really don't care for them if you're +150lbs or an unbalanced rider because there is no help in compensating for your weight on the horses back. There are a ton of different tree options out there, so if you prefer a trees saddle I bet many folks on here can make a recommendation.

Had one with hock pain, and no he was never back sore before I rode, but was back sore after especially if I was workings barrels or circle work.

Straight lines he never really got back sore

I agree with determining which part of the saddle is making them sore.  Just because one or two treed saddles is makig them sore doesn't mean ALL treed saddles will make them sore.

I also agree to check hocks, but I would also look higher.  I had a horse with soreness around the kidney area and it was most definitely NOT hocks.  She got whorlbone injections.

Check to make sure your saddle sits even on the back. If it rocks back and forth from poor fit that could definitely be causing the soreness in that area. :)

When my horses hocks where bothering the only saddle i could ride him in was the treeless. I did have a debra sibley and sold it i knew i would be sorry. Both of these will take pressure off there back. The debra sibley was real easy to,ride in and balance in. Kinda sorry i sold it.
