It appears to be a short shank and the picture is small but it looks like a chain mouthpiece, which is not a harsh mouthpiece. The chain conforms to the horses mouth and is more of tongue pressure instead of bar pressure. Chain mouthpieces are great for a horse with a sensitive mouth as well. I LOVE chain bits and have a bit identical to yours. It's not harsh! However there is also the saying a bit is only as harsh as the hands using it.

Harsh wasn't what came in my mind either... He's super touchy that's why they liked to chain mouth it freed him up

I bet L&W bits could make one for you if they don't already have one like it.

The bit is part of a barrel racer collection bits and for the life of me I can't remember who, I am thinking reinsman makes the bit.

Looks like an L&W, and as far as that fb forum delete it! It prob just a bunch of people that don't know Half of what they are talking about most are probly there just to bash! An not even informative helpful information!! That is why I love this site! And the people on it! Very informative and somone always willing to help! my horse loves a chain mouth, it conforms to their mouth and isn't nearly as harsh!! He is calmer, more focused and doesn't play with the bit nearly as much!he is one of those super sensitive cow bred horses. I have tried numerous bits and even smooth mouth 2 PC bits he hates. He is well broke, I have had a vet look at him and he is floated regularly with no issues, no tmj. He's just.. sensitive.

I think it is an L&W bit too. Have one like it and I love it. You have some people that are probably not really horse people trying to influence you.
