Location: ohio-in my own little world with pretty ponies :) | Were getting ours this afternoon and I haven't had a "puppy" in like 5 years sooo what to do? How often should he go out at night? Should I crate him? Or let him out with the other dogs? He is going to be SO's hunting dog so he already has plans for training. |

| Be prepared as it's going to be like having a baby in the house. He should go out as often as he needs to. How old is your puppy? At 7-8 weeks they will need to go out about every 2-3 hours at night. During the day if you are home with them, take them out every hour. Get yourself some Nature's Miracle Pet stain and odor remover (works great for getting puppy pee stains and smells out of the carpet). I am a firm believer in crate training. The key is don't get one too big or they will use it as an outhouse. Mine is now 4 1/2 months old and he still goes out at night at least once but he doesn't go in his crate. At night, cover up the crate with a blanket so the puppy cannot see out. He WILL stop crying and whining (though it may take up to 10 minutes - be patient) if you keep it covered up. Get him some rope toys or a kong toy to chew on - no rawhide. Have fun. |

Location: London Ontario | Remember who the leader is. None of our dogs are allowed on the couches or bed unless invited, they are not allowed to eat or take their treat until we tell them to(we have 2 German Shepherds, we can put a steak on the living room floor and tell them to leave it, they will not touch it all day until they are told to.) Also they are not allowed to have their kibble till they are told to. We will also often walk up to them while they are eating their dinner or chewing a bone or toy and take it away for no reason and then give it back just to let them know we are the bosses. When we go for walks, they walk beside us or behind us, we are walking THEM, not the other way around. They also aren't allowed through doors or gates before us.
Just remember who the boss is!!! And have fun, they are cute as hell but they get big quick!! |

Location: Sunny So Cal | Have fun and enjoy them! Discipline comes with time. I always taught mine a code word when it comes to potty training them. I second on staying away from rawhide. It gave my dog IBS. Post pictures when you can!  Puppies keep you busy! |

Location: ohio-in my own little world with pretty ponies :) | We have 3 grown dogs just haven't been in the puppy stage for quite some time. I'm mostly worried about potty training!! Lol 2 came to me potty trained(rescues) and the 1 I had to potty train but he is almost 6 now so it's been awhile lol |

Yep! He will be crate trained but I'm not sure if he should be in there at night. |

Yep! He will be crate trained but I'm not sure if he should be in there at night.
My older trained hunting dog doesn't stay in a crate at night but he did as a pup. It is GOOD for them. Absolutely crate train your puppy. My 4 1/2 month old GWP will go in on his own. It's THEIR space. |
