Location: TN | I am fully aware of the 6.0's salty reputation. If we could have afforded a Dodge with low mileage we would have gone that route instead. We got a great deal and bought this truck knowing that when the time came, we would have to address the EGR issues that they so notoriously have.
Our mechanic recommended that we replace the stock parts with bulletproof parts instead of doing the EGR delete kit.
To those who have experience with the 6.0, which option is better? |

Location: NW. Florida | I did the delete kit and have never had a problem. Love my truck. Google Ford 6.0 delete kits and you'll find all kinds of information. |

| Do the delete kit. I LOVED my 6.0. I love the Dodge I traded it in for, but my 6.0 was my baby. I never had any problems out of it until the injectors went bad. |

Location: Kentucky | We have a 6.0 and we deleted it. It has 250k miles and no problem. The bulletproof kit is much more expensive, but people have good luck with it also. You can't go wrong with either.
You may want to go to a Powerstroke forum and do a search www.powerstrokearmy.com and www.powerstrokenation.com is where I hang out a lot. |

Location: Lost in the corn of Iowa. | Do the EGR delete. We have a 6.0 and this winter it is going in for the delete and new head studs because they are notorious for being soft. And ours isn't giving us any fits, we are just doing it before we get to that point.
ETA: also do the gauge package when you do it that way you can monitor all your pressures and temps.

| You seriously need to replace the oil cooler. IT is what causes the EGR problems. It has too fine a screen in it, the oil overheats, causing the EGR to plug up which eventually leads to the headgasket, headbolt, injector issues.
I did a delete and replaced the oil cooler BEFORE any issues. Unfortunately I couldn't justify the Bulletproof oil cooler but went with a OEM "improved" oil cooler. We also put a coolant filter in.
I repeat, in case it was missed.....just an EGR delete is NOT going to prevent the most common issues of the 6.0. |
