I have some EPM questions for those who have experienced it.
I am going to be using Orogin on this horse, I know each horse is different but when did you start to see results? How long before the horse was back to riding/running? Did you use any other supplements during/after treatment? Mine will be on a gut supplement and my vet suggested a 10,000 vit E supplement but wondering what others have had success with. At what point after treatment should I retest? Any info would be great!

noticed results after 4 days, had to retreat 30 days after with just levamisole. Put back to work after we finished the levamisole but it was too late for my gelding, he was to far gone with the muscle loss. I treated with Marquis(sp) first and had no results with it, wish I would have treated with the Orogin or Diclazuril first. Gave and sill give Vitamin E, and gave Vitamin C until a couple months after treatment. He is about as good as he is gonna get now.

They need to be on an immune builder.  And for the ones with muscle atrophy, structure build and Neprofin AVF and maybe add Painaway for the nerve damage.

My horse never showed any nurological signs and vet said that it's not EPM.  I insisted on the test through pathogenes.com and it came back with a 64 titer across all three markers.  Vet had never seen one that high...
The mare was very skinny in the top line and hurt in her back.  Got broncy.  I treated with Oroqin in early May.  She has gained a lot of weight since then and looks great.  I am longing her and will try and ride her again in af ew weeks when it gets cooler.  She also has some structural issues so I am not sure what is EPM related and what is structural.

I currently have her on THE NutraWound and NitrOxide.  These two products have really helped her bloom.

You should usually see results after 4 or 5 days of the Orogin. I had one whose ears flopped, and I just thought that was him. After 4 days on the Orogin, his ears were upright and never flopped again. That one, too, showed no outward symptoms other than the ear flop, but after treatment, I realized he did have some symptoms, but I just didn't attribute them to EPM....he was very inconsistent prior to treatment; after treatment he was a machine. On that one, I never quit running him....he just got better. Depending on how long they've had it, and what part of the body it attacks, you just never know how they're going to come back.....if they have a lot of muscle atrophy, it will take longer than a horse that doesn't. Younger horses recover more quickly than older horses. After care will be something that you and your vet will have to decide as each horse is different. Also, I retest every 60 days just to make sure they haven't relapsed. It's only $60 and I figure it's worth it for my peace of mind.

Thanks for the replies!

Diane it's interesting you mention the ear deal, this gelding has the ear flop going on too but everybody just poked fun at him for having "happy donkey ears", I didn't think much of it. It will be interesting to see if his will perk up after treatment.

He doesn't really have the classic symptoms people contribute to EPM but he had some weird things going on that we seemed to chase in circles getting nowhere and I just knew something wasn't right. I had to really push to get him tested and my vet was shocked when he was positive. He only has minor atrophy mostly from his croup to the point of the hip and a little over his topline so hopefully he will respond well to treatment and get to feeling better and firing.

I knew something wasn't right with my 8 yr old gelding and competition wise he had no issues ( I thought) his coat was dull and rough really was the main issue. After several tests my vet run including the one from pathogenes determined it was EPM type 5. I would say within 5 or so days on the Oriqin he started shedding and literally woke up. She rechecked him at 2 weeks and did an extra 14 days of the levamisole. I let him rest while on the meds so not to stress him out. All my horses are on Animal Element performance detox daily and the Immune while hauling away or stressed. I upped his dosage and used immune while on meds. My vet stated his titer levels indicated he had it for probably 2 years and amazingly not much damage. I believe it was due to the detox and keeping him on immune. I started riding immediately after treatment and wow what a difference. He now is about a half a second faster and explosive out of his turns. If you even think EPM pathogenes test and Oriqin is the only way to go. Marquis is a joke and waste of time, $$$ and your horses health.

I have never heard of the Oriqin? Where are you getting it and what does it cost? I just spent $920 on Marquis to treat one for a month and have had wonderful results but I would really like to treat her another 30 days just to be sure we knock it out. The track vet did tell me they treat a lot of them and never take them out of race training so I went back to exercising mine while treating her.

New very acurate testing and Oroquin meds through www.pathogenes.com
Meds list at $200 plus what you vet tags on.  Only treat for 10 days.

I'm very happy with Pathogenes.  Glad they exist!
