Expert Posts: 1586 Location: west of East Texas	I didn't want to steal a thread but I would like more information. I ran my 5yo mare Saturday and then she stood tied to the trailer from about 5:30 to 9:30. She had water offered to her a couple of times but she drank very little, especially compared to the others, but that isn't abnormal for her. I have a water tank in my trailer so she was getting water brought from home. When I loaded up to go home, she was drenched in sweat and trembling a little. She was fine after the hour-long ride home and has been fine since so I wasn't really worried about it. However, after reading the other post.... I am VERY worried now. Does anyone else have experience with this?

Shelter Dog Lover Posts: 10277	No, but I would get to a vet and have blood drawn if vet thinks something might still show up in the blood work. She could have tied up or had heart issues.

Expert Posts: 1226	We had one do this awhile back. Vet was in the area and he came by. It looked more neurological so I called. Vet said looks like he ate something toxic. We flushed with DMSO and gave dex. He was fine in a few hours. Hasn't had another episode

The Advice Guru Posts: 6419	The day of and a few days later if it was tying up I believe the ck level would be elevated, you would need to ask your vet for the blood test that measures muscle damage.

Rad Dork Posts: 5218 Location: Oklahoma	I can't add anything else that someone else hasn't said... just sounds like she tied up to me. What is the NSC value of your feed? You might want to check and see if it's too high and put her on a lower valued feed. I was also told to offer water with and water without electrolytes. It's very scary to go thru, but luckily I made some changes to my geldings routine and he hasn't had another episode since. (knock on wood!) You can easily do the PSSM type 1 test to make sure she doesn't have PSSM. The PSSM thread on here is a wealth of information!
