Herbals never did much for mine. Went to vet and got prescription. Albuterol as needed plus ventipulman.

I've got a 22 year old that i"ve been dealing with heaves for over 10 years. Has progressively gotten harder to treat when he "flares up".
Azymicin is the ONLY thing i've had success with in those 10 years.  20cc in the muscle for 10 days. Used to last a year or more with no issues (kept off any dusty hay). I did an allergy panel on him last August and am almost done with the series of shots.  It has not cured him by any means, but i've been able to get his flare ups back under control when they occur.  I am hopeful that back on grass this summer he will feel great. It's a nasty thing to have to deal with.  :(

I think it's honestly a guessing game for each horse to find the right concoction for them.  I tried just about everything this summer to fix my guy before finally figuring out a combination that helped get his under control, we're going on almost 2 months now with no meds and no cough!  I'm afraid for spring to come back...  My vet told me if I notice him coughing this spring to call his ASAP after dosing him with Dex and Albuterol, he said there is a long acting steroid shot we can give if needed?

SIGHHHH...Double dose Probiotics, Vitamin E VitaminC/K DMG , Rose hips and RE-Coup along with Vita Flex multi vitamins. Stick in a large syringe with water. Got to get the bugs right in the stomache and the vitamins to keep those blood feeding vessels in the lungs strong. You can give drugs all day long but you'll still have heaves cause you have the wrong bugs doing damage. Double dose cause there are a lot of bad bugs taking over.
