Location: Dubach, LA | Got a gelding this weekend that is brown. He was brown in the baby pic on back of papers yet AQHA registered him as grey. Apparently breeder said these colts always turn grey. This one didn't. Why did AQHA register him as a color he obviously wasn't? Could this be a problem later? |

Location: CTX | Mmm, I am kind of in the same situation. My mare is a bay roan on her papers, but she is grey now. I have seen pics of her when she was younger, and she really was that dark, but over the years she got lighter and lighter like most greys do. Not trying to hijack the thread, just wondering if it is as simple as calling AQHA and changing her papers? |

Location: Peg-Leg Julia Grimm | With baby colors sometimes the person registering them is giving their best guess. Sometimes you know the foal will be gray by the prominent frosted coat. Sometimes they don't have so much and you think they might. It REALLY helps if the breeder understands color genetics. I had a filly born last year. Red with white hair all through her body. But none on her head. She's o/o a gray mare. But she is not going to be gray because her head doesn't have any white hairs mixed in with the red.
They will require pictures, but should change the color without too much trouble. |

Was this before DNA and PV? Cause I can't see them doing that now. They would just require PV on the horse.
ETA: and because a horse could be born dun and turn gray if they have both genes.

Yes it was 1985. And I'm pretty sure this mare was out of a grey stud. I wish I could remember his name. |
