Pole barn designs
Hello y'all! My husband and I live in a 100 year farm house that is white with tan trim. We are going to tear down the current barn and build a new big barn hopefully this year or next year. For one I'm at a loss what color to make the barn... It will be 20 feet away from so I want it to match... The house needs a new roof so that will changed this spring but I got to plan ahead! I also would like to see if anyone else has any pointers or tips they learned or wish they would of done building their barn? Thanks in advance!!

Concrete block or tilt wall concrete walls up to 8' then an air gap and tin above that. Less chance of injuries to your horses. I'm going to be putting in a new horse barn in the coming year. My husband wanted to do steel but I can't stand the heat and cold transfer. I love our present concrete block barn we have. Cool in our S.TX summers and warm in the winters. The horses actually go into their stalls and stand under their fans to escape the biting bugs in the summer and fall mesquito seasons.
I would use a white tin and if you go with the block or concrete you can paint it white or tan. Tan barn and white trim would look sharp. My breeze way is 14 ft I can pull my truck and 4 horse bumper pull into the breeze way to unload when weather is bad. I'm going to have a pull thru awning on the front of the new barn that's 16' high so I can pull in front and unload.
Design your barn to sit where the horses will have a slight breeze to clear the respiratory bugs from the barn. West side tree's are important where I'm at. Drainage very important to us too, we flood here and thus had french drains placed all around and under our barn. It's worked very well.
Insulate the roof of your barn. Plan on a hay shed nearby not any hay storage in your horse barn.

one corner of the barn will be 20' of the house because we only have so much flat and suitable ground to build on. And please don't say to buy ground else where because in my area ground that is buildable or suitable is going for over 10,000 an acre
Thanks for the advice uno!

We had a 50'x60'
(all metal
). The apartment was on one side
(12'x50'
). My horses were 30' from the apartment with 35' runs. I loved my barn and wish I could have moved it to where we are now. I would like in another in a heart beat.

We lived in a 100 year old white farm house also, before we bought the land where we built our new home at. This may be hard to picture but it was the first thing that popped into my mind when I read your post. What if you did you barn in a navy/grey color
(the company we buy our metal through CENTRAL GUARD the color is called "ocean"
). Then do a white trim and white roof. Once it comes time to replace the roof on your house, get a metal roof in that same navy/grey color. Our doors were this color on our old farm house
(our roof was just old silver tin
) and it looked so pretty. I love the color but we ended up building a red house so we obviously had to go with a red barn.

It sounds so pretty! Do you have any pictures of your old place? We are due for a new roof this spring and will do barn either this fall or next year so I'm trying to plan ahead when I pick this roof color!

Pictures of your house and the area of future barn are a must to give any kind of decent advise. The amount of room by perimeter of barn space and where your drive ways are can make a place look good or bad.
Roof line of house and barn can be made appealing since the house needs a new roof. Do the barn and house in the same metal roof colors ... if you use tan ... you can use tan metal for the tan trim on the house so it will all match. Metal house roof will last forever and better protection in storms ..
If you use white roofs or galvalume.... .. with metal tan house trim and tan barn sidewalls with white trim ........ house and barn will be cooler in summer time ... and look good together .. not having seen the place ... this would be my choice ...
Because if you did white shiny metal walls on the barn next to a wooden painted house ... it will make the house look ugly ... the white will never look the same nor weather the same ... ...
You may need to think of some kind of half circle drive since things are going to be crowded ..
GOOD LUCK ..

I don't have any pictures unfortunately, our old computer crashed and it had all our pictures of our old house. Here is a picture of the color I am kind of talking about to give you an idea.
