Location: Northeast SD | What do you use for tick and flea preventative for your dogs? Mine tends to get a lot of ticks in the spring months so I want to see what everyone else uses with success. TIA |

Location: MN | I give both of my Aussie's a pill called Bravecto. Has worked very well living in Norther MN where the ticks are HORRID during spring and summer months and again early Fall. Every tick I have ever found on them while taking Bravecto, which lasts 3 months, have been dead. Very happy with it. |

Location: Ohio | For fleas I like using Trifexis pills. For $20 you treat heartworms, intestinal parasites and fleas for 30 days. My guys don't have a big tick problem but the Bravecto sounds interesting... |

| We don't have fleas in my area but I use Frontline for ticks. And when I worked at a feed store years ago, I learned that the kind of dog food you feed can (not always) make a difference. Dog foods full of fillers and by-products often will create dry skin and fleas love that environment. High quality foods create a good quality coat and oily skin environment, not conducive for happy fleas. I'd never have believed it but when we changed our retriever's food from grocery store brand whatever to good stuff from a feed/pet store, we never had flea issues again (and we lived on the coast). I picked up Bravecto from the vet today. We used it last year also for our big outside dogs and it worked pretty well. It costs about $50 which is move expensive than the Comfortus but it lasts 3 months so it works out to be little cheaper. |

| My dogs get the spot on treatment. I order it from amazon.com its called Fiproguard. We have alot of ticks and a few fleas but this takes care of it all. Haven't had a problem unless I forget to put it on!  |

Location: MN | I use Nexgard chewables. I didn't like frontline the oil would make a mess of the hair where I put it. Nexgard you can get your dog wet right away. My dog loves to go swimming in the creek. |

Location: TN | In the past I've used Advantix and Frontline, but my dogs love to get in the ponds and then they wash the stuff off. So the last two years I've used Seresto collars (you can get them at the vet or on Amazon for a good deal). They are awesome! Super easy. Just put them on and you're good to go for up to 8 months. Mine have lasted the full 8 months, but I keep them on year round so I just switch them out every 8 months. My dogs are inside/outside dogs and the only ticks I've ever found on them were a couple dead/dried up ones last summer when ticks were really bad. Get the large size unless your dog is really tiny though. The small size just barely fit around my 18 lbs beagle's neck so I get large for all of them now and just trim off the excess. |

These are monthly pills that cover hookworms, roundworms and whipworms. We deal with a lot of mosquitos (very close to the ohio river) so that was the main reason I started using them, I've lost a dog to heartworms in the past and it was horrible. As long as they are given on a full stomach so they have time to break down and absorb into their systems, I've gotten anywhere from 35-45 days of flea protection. |
