As I mentioned in the other thread I have a new Corriente saddle, and it fits my horse a lot better than my Triple Creek. After a few rides I was curious if I should shim my saddle because it still is SLIGHTLY wide in the front for him and after I ride there is still space in between the saddle and the saddle pad, but not a lot. The pictures I took are of the saddle and no saddle pad but I did try the Impact Gel Built Up pad (had to ride the TC on) and it's just too much thickness under the Corriente. Anyway, I'm unsure if I need to buy a shim to use with one of my other saddle pads (that have no built up), or just buy a new saddle pad; either a 5 star or something similar. I also don't know what kind of thickness I should buy if I do end up buying a new saddle pad. I'd really appreciate your guys's help with this.
Sorry his mane was blowing in the wind.

It looks to me like its sitting a little down hill. So I would say yes, shim it.

I have a wide tree MJ saddle.  I have been having issues with my saddle and dry spots.  I love my 5-Star, but even with a shim, dry spots.  So I put on my new 1/2" Wade pad with a shim.  No more dry spots.  I am glad that I don't have to deal with this any longer.  Good luck.

Try shims. At least they're cheap, if they don't work. I think they will though.

For my saddle that was a little too wide for my horse I just took two of the quilted under wraps and folded them in half length wise, put one on top of the other and placed them under the front of my saddle.  They were long enough that they reached from wear leather to wear leather.  Cheap and did the trick, no one the wiser.

I don't know about you but when I try on athletic shoes I use socks. My point is what does it look and more importantly feel like with your pad?

Get yourself a DIAMOND WOOL Shim pad!!! THey are only like 115.00 I got mine on sale for 89.99 during the valley vet supply pad sale. lol Its a 1" 100% wool pad but has front , middle, and rear shims. you can adjust them however you want. You may only need the front ones now for this horse but you may get a horse later that needs a different set up. Good to have!!!

It is a hair down hill. It fits well otherwise. I would go with a 3/4" pad and shim. The bulkier the pad the tighter the saddle will end up fitting.

Never try a saddle fit with a pad. See if the saddle fits well first without a pad. Then add a pad according to the direction of slope in the saddle.
