Location: Florida | After 8 years with no problems my truck transmission is acting funny. Stuck in first, going to neutral, reving up when I first get on the highway. The computer said something like shifting impeded. I have driven this same model of truck since 1982 and this is a first. Anyone have any suggestions? Should I take it to a transmission shop, my regular mechanic, or the dealer? |

Location: Riding Crackhead. | It could just be a sensor. Mine was acting up and that's all it was. Even though mine is out of warranty I always use the local Chevy dealer where I bought it for repairs. |

Location: Michigan | Most tranny shops will not know much about the Allison that is in your truck. Either GM dealer or a shop that works on
Allisons.
Only sensors on the outside are the 3 speed sensors and if either of the 2 rear most sensors are having issues you will get a shift inhibit. Allison trouble codes would point directly to where the problem is, unfortunately the Allison software is needed to get codes. The GM codes do not give enough detail.

Location: Florida | Good news, the oil change place mislead me, it was very low in transmission fluid like first thought. The first three aluminum crimped hose joints were leaking. The guy at the transmission shop put it on the lift and I could see it right away. He re-crimped them and added hose clamps and did a service and we will see if it works. So far so good. Funny, the last truck a 1994 GMC also used transmission fluid and no one ever figured out why..... |

Glad it wasn't something more painful to your pocketbook! |
