I want to know if you guys think it was the pen throwing us off from the 1st barrel on and that's what cause our run to look like a jumbled mess, if there is a specific issue you see, or if you think she hurts still (coming back with vet OK after 2 years off and being rechecked next week to see if she's ok still after making a run).

I'm honestly too fraidy cat to post my run because I don't want to be torn apart but I wouldn't mind sending my run to people for opinions. This arena turned out to be HUGE. 76 entries and a 18.0 won it. This mare is usually 2D-3D but we were a 19.4 today. She is usually a free runner to the first but by the time we got there she was a butt dragger which means we didn't get by it very far. I think that error just dominoed. Lots of horses either died like mine and hardly made it around all 3 or RAN OFF because it's a big outdoor panel-made pen. Mine did a mixture of both lol.

I am big on basics. How much work do you do on basics ? How much slow work did you do on slow work? If I was bringing one back I would make sure they were working slow to perfection before I moved on.

This mare can slow work with a string around her neck. She is as fancy broke as fancy broke gets. Wednesday night I walked, trotted and loped her through at a friends house in an o-ring. She didn't even flick an ear at me. Super light, super correct, super calm. I walked them stopping at my rate points, hip in and walked a step or two by the barrel with her should up. Trotting I sat at my rate points and walked around the barrels. Loping I sat and she went into her pretty collected lope and as soon as we round led 3 and I sat and relaxed, so did she and she just walked off with her head down. No nerves, very responsive.

Good. Always need to do your homework. In two years time it is so easy for a horse to forget those important cues and a rider does as well.
