| I need some bit and/or slow work exercise suggestions for a horse that likes to tip his nose to the outside of the barrel during runs. Soft warming up and during slow work. Once we add speed he wants to tip that nose out a touch. He will still lift up off the barrel when I ask. He isn't shouldering in just tipping that nose out. |

| I had this exact same issue... I went back to circles and did a lot of spirals and making sure when I picked that rein up similar to how I did my barrels that he was supple and soft. Really bending through the rip cage and moving off the pressure without throwing his nose out. I eventually started doing it on the barrels but never the actual barrel pattern really, mostly just 4 barrels or random barrels. I switched him from a Charmayne James Ryan to a Cervi short shank lifter which helped give me a bit more when I needed it. I think it tends to be a balance/anticipating thing. |

If the link doesn't work, do a search on this forum. It's been shared for years. |

| Mary Burger's Moe turns his entire head out-doesn't seem to bother his runs. |

Yes, you want to do your best to have your horse traveling correct while in training ..... but sometimes there comes a point where you have to let the horse do their own thing, even if it's not really "correct".
So I guess I would say if he is not doing anything wrong in his runs and is still listening and you can move him where you need, I would let him be.

Good point. I feel like I can pick him up and move him when I need, even when his nose is tipped to the outside of the turn. Maybe that is just where he is comfortable. |
