The only one I know about is not for riding, it's made for a horse that plays with bits too much and you put it on them for an hour or so, tied up somewhere with a halter on as well, and they're just supposed to tired their mouth out. I think I saw it on South Texas Tack or something along the lines of that. It wasn't used for riding though.

I have heard of them but have never seen one. The girls who mention them were in Europe and not barrel racers. I am curious, too.

Your PHT girl Rachel can tell you bout them. I haven't seen or heard before her. But seen on fb that they have a horse doing really well in one. I'm sure it is more forgiving! and a light bit. Hopefully she will pipe on here and give us the scoop!

Interesting... I've seen them for TB and SB racing but not on a barrel horse.

There are some war bridles with leather mouthpieces.

These can be used with any kind of shank length, combo bit, etc A good bit maker can fix you right up with one. But they should be maintained well bc they can and well break from wear and use quickly and easily. I am not a fan of them but have tried a few.

My husband made one to ride a horse that he had that didn't like bits. It works great! I can't get the pic to load but if someone can do it for me I will send it to them.

I have one that was made to be used without a headstall. It straps under the chin. My mare has an old poll injury that flairs up once in awhile that makes her nearly unrideable with a headstall so I found bridleless bits and had one made. I can ride her and keep her legged up with this bit during her horrible episodes. I have no tried running a pattern in it.
