| I just got this horse about 2 weeks ago that is a free runner. And the people I got her from didn't really know much about running her and did not get along with her at all. She is a super super powerful horse. One of the top futurity trainers rode her some in the past and I reached out to him a week ago to find out what bit he rode her in. As she throws her head and opens her mouth with about every bit I put her in. So he told me Curb bit with a shank and referred me to his tie down he made. I want to ask him which curb bit specifically. But also don't want to bug him. If you were in my shoes would you try to find out what excatly they rode her in. Or would you continue to do the bit game. I put her in a curb bit yesterday and she was a night and day difference. And I can't quite tell if she was full of it and was throwing her head or if she still hated the bit. But she was not anything like she was with the other bits. Do I ask him one more time specifically what bit he used? Or play it out with this curb bit since she didn't seem to hate it. |

| I guess my thought is, if they're a trainer, they're used to getting asked questions. Obviously they'll stop answering them if you're asking for a ton of stuff. Pay for lesson or several to get the info! But, asking what specific bit to use shouldn't be hard for them to answer. There are 9 million curb bits and they are not created equal! Most trainers would rather help someone than not, especially if they liked the horse. They'd rather answer a few questions and see the horse successful than see their product ruined beyond repair. |

Location: Oklahoma | Did you google to see if you could find any old pics or videos of the horse? Then you can get a look at the bit. Other than that I would just ask for additional info. |

| Yes, I have watched and watched videos and I can't tell. And I would totally take lessons from him if we were in the same state lol |

| Thank him for his help the first time, and politely ask him specifically what bit he used because she did seem to do better (definitely bring up that she did better from his advice, a little "atta boy" never hurts when you're asking for a favor, lol). If it were me and someone reached out about a horse, I wouldnt mind helping them if it was just a quick... "I used this bit, or worked the horse this way, etc." as long as it didnt turn into an hour long conversation or someone blowing me up pretty frequently about it. Also, congrats on your new horse! Hopefully this bit ordeal wont take long to sort out and y'all will be pulling checks sooner rather than later! :) |

There are two kinds of bits--snaffle and curb. A snaffle bit is one that has no curb chain and has a D ring or O ring. A curb bit has a cub chain or curb strap and a shank. The curb bit has a one piece, two piece, three piece, or chain mouth piece. When a person says curb bit they are more than a little vague. It could be anything! Get the trainer to send you a picture of what he used and go from there. If you are just having the problem of the horse opening her mouth, get a caveson. You can find one pretty cheap at BIG D's or CHICKS. I just bought one |

Not a dumb question, actually it's the first question that should have been asked. There is ALWAYS a reason a horse does something we deem bad. There is a cause for her acting this way. Although there lots of reasons, she is not doing this just because and a cavesson is just a mask covering up a problem. |

Location: Too far from home | Ask him and see if he can give you a pic and maybe even an idea where he got it. As long as you are polite and grateful, I'd think most trainers would want a horse they trained to succeed. It's a win-win. |
