ok, so I'm wanting to buy a new bit, considering a Molly powell bit
but can't make up my mind between the #309 with a port or the
# 311 with the dog bone, the bit I currently use is a hodges with a dog bone
and I feel it actually has too much bend, and was thinking a ported bit
might be helpful in taking some of the bend out,, suggestions ?

And also I currently use a 1" Impart pad, was curious if anyone used the 1/2"
version and any opinions on those.
I'm thnking if their just as good as the 1", I woud try an 1/2"
as I think the saddle I'm using currently would work good with a 1/2" pad

Going from a Hodges to something with a long shank is a huge adjustment... I would suggest something more like a lite lifter, there is no gag in that and it seems to take a little bend out of one with no gag... :

A nice bit with a port is the Wright pretzel bit.  I'm not a fan of Molly's 309 bit, the chain with a port.  She had my daughter buy that bit at her clinic and start running her mare in it.  We hated it and the horse hated it worse.  She's a real soft mouthed horse.  The shanks were heavy enough and the chains had no support so the shanks hung down on her lips and the mare kept trying to collect up.  Didn't work for us.

Ditto to the Ed Wright Pretzel.  Although you might consider a hack or a Mullen mouthpiece if you just want to stiffen one up.  A port is going to stand them up a little more....

Good point Hammer.  I was running my gelding in a Connie Combs Stabilizer bit which is a mullen mouth.   He's been off for quite a while on R & R and now bringing him back to start running again.  I felt he was a little too stiff so I switched him to a Pretzel.  So far I really like it.

Thanks for the info I'll check those bits out

I haven't really even ran this horse yet, just doing slow work he
tends to pull/bump his nose going from 1st to 2nd
and is VERY bendy, going around the barrels
I just haven't had time between the weather and my work schedule
to ride but from stuff I've read, was curious if a ported bit
would help, I have an older correction bit with copper mouth
I could try on him to see how he responses, also now curious about
the stabilizer bit,,,,
