I have an 8mo colt that will be getting his family jewels taken away, but when?
When do yall snip? I've heard many people say do it such & such age for height, bulkiness, etc. But what is your personal opionion/experience?

I gelded my colt at 2. I always planned on gelding him, he just never acted studdy so procrastination is what took so long to get him gelded. If he would have started acting like a butt earlier he would have been cut then.

As soon as I can. As early as 6 weeks up to the fall while they are still on the mare
(six months or so
). Gelding early is proven to delay the growth plates on the long bones so they grow taller. There is NO difference at all in the final development of the horses body/muscle and there's less reason for them to get hurt by being naughty. They are also easier for me to handle without the cocky attitude.

I did my gelding at 6 months. Also make sure you do it before fly season.

I haven't gelded my colt yet, and he is a March yearling. If he doesn't sell soon I will get him gelded. Don't want any surprises around here!

Just curious. . .
What are the advantages/disadvantages of doing it at 1 year or younger? Obviously to keep them from breeding anything or to keep them from acting like a stud, but do their bodies develop the same and grow at the same rate as they would if you waited until they were 2 or 3?

I gelded mine at 3 months and would have done it sooner but the flies were bad. I don't see any disadvantages in gelding early.
