| I realize that some of these are pretty young riders, but even considering that, I see plenty of older riders who clearly need to take it down a notch and learn to ride better before asking for the speeds they are asking for.
I will probably get flamed for this, but its my opinion.
When your horse comes out of the 1st barrel, and IS NOT EVEN HEADED TO THE 2ND BARREL, but is instead cutting left and back out the ally, perhaps that is a good time to stop whipping for more speed?!?!

| I will add that I have seen plenty of good riding as well!
I was just surprised to see riders asking for speed when the horse was clearly not even going to remain on pattern! |

Location: London Ontario | I agree completely, there are a bunch of riders like that here, their horses wont turn worth a poop, but they keep onnnn whipping!!!! Its unfortunate cause there are plenty of amazing riders who will hopefully go places!!!! |

Location: wherever my gypsy soul lands | There are some really talented young riders but that being said, like you pointed out there are some that need to slow down. And some that are on WAY too much horse. Watched it yesterday and couldn't believe the amount of horses ducking out or turning up the fence. Those riders could do nothing to stop them. And a few that came close to hitting the tractors. |

| It was to much for me to keep watching with the poor kids whos parents cant teach them to ride or pay for them to get lessons :( Also to many kids over mounted on high power horses. That's the great thing about barrel racing that no other event does. Anyone can barrel race all you have to do is go around 3 barrels there's not much rules besides don't hit one and make one left 2 rights or 1 right 2 lefts.. |

^I'm not sure I would consider that a "great thing"...
People need to learn to ride properly before doing it at wide open speeds. Sometimes its good to be judged by others so we know where to improve our riding. |

Location: London Ontario | I'd also like to say there are tons of amazing horses there. I saw one little pony get jerked, kicked, whipped and then jerked on some more for no reason, and that little saint didn't even swish it's tail, why didn't I have these ponies when I was younger? I got my butt bucked off too many times to count on our little devils!!! |

And probably learned how to ride a bronc, and how to appreciate a really nice, broke horse - and how to make sure YOUR horses were the latter instead of the former. |
