When I was growing up , I was constantly prompted to do all kinds of things. Open doors for people, say excuse me, say Yes Maam , No Maam, Yes Si,r No Sir. and say Thank You. Mr. and Mrs. showing signs of respect to others. And when my Mother or Dad saw that I might have missed an opportunity to say "Thanks", they simply remined me " What do you say?"

So let me ask you a question. In light of all that God has done or you, what should you say to Him today?

Psalms 136:1-6
Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good!
For His mercy endures forever,
Oh, give thanks to the Gods' of gods.
for His mercy endures forever
To him who alone does great wonders, for his mercy
endures forever
To HIm who by wisdom made the heavens, for His mercy endures forever!

When hear children of today say Yes, Maam, No Maam, Thank You Yes Sir, No Sir, I get a smile in my heart with gratitude to the parents for teaching "manners" and respect.
I am 60 yrs young, and with my raising, I still say Yes Maam, No Maam , Yes Sir No Sir and thank you. I have had the person I am saying it to say oh you don't have to do that I reply yes I do it is a sign of respect and that is what I was taught .
I pray that those of you who have children, will teach them to respect others, it is a sign that you respect God AMEN
For it is with God all things are possible
THANK YOU, YES MA'AM, YES SIR HAVE A VERY BLESSED THURSDAY!

I wasn't raised saying "yes ma'am" or "yes sir." However, I was raised to be polite. After moving to north Louisiana, I realized how important and how much of a habit those words are. Everyone here says yes/no ma'am/sir religiously. So, I had to learn that habit, and boy was it a hard one. Anyway, I have made it a top priority to raise my daughter (now 2 1/2) to have manners and be truthful in all instances, even when it is uncomfortable to say what she feels. She already has habits of saying "yes/no ma'am/sir, bless you, excuse me, thank you, you're welcome, etc." She will correct me if I forget also! So to say the least...I totally agree with you! Manners are a must in my house!

Amen...I was one also raised to be polite...please and thank you. In the northern hemisphere we didn't learn the ma'ams or sirs, but still a yes please, or a no thank you. Good reminder, ma'am. :

LOVE this. Being a young parent of a five year old, whom is very independent and has a mind of her own, it is sometimes a struggle to instill something so simple as politeness and respect. But that's how I was raised, and so shall she.

Even more important though, is giving Thanks to the One who deserves it the most. Our Heavenly Father. Thank you Lord, for the uncountable blessings You have showered my family and I with. May we always be reminded of Your greatness.

AMEN.

as a "Northerner" (Parents born in Indiana and Massachussetts) and raised in Southern CA...we don't do the yes, ma'am, no ma'am thing...but working in the rodeo industry I learned it quickly! ...and I like it! Being pregnant I will instill this in my child along with the old "seen and not heard," thing.

As it is, my husband and I had a gentleman that INSISTED on paying for our lunch since he saw hubby open the door for me and another lady. Good ol' manners will get you far in life, and that's a good thing.

Another way of showing good manners is holding the door open for someone, it warms my heart when I see a young child holding the door open for someone they dont know, I always give them a big old smile while I'm telling them thank you, and most times they give you a shy little smile back..
