Long story short I have a gelding I recently bought was a tad tender in the heels and did xray nothing shows no damage to the coffin bone and no degeneration of the navicular bone so farrier and vet agree it is from improper shoeing anf incorrect angle. So we have a plan of action with the farrier and vet and to increase the degrees and get his heels back under him. So what can I do until then because I cant make heelsngrow overnight. Any supplements people would suggest or therapy?

THE supplements! Ask Bob what would be best. I'm thinking probably the NitrOxide but I am no expert at prescribing- only purchasing LOL

Did he suggest anything about wedge shoes for him? Kirkharts is what I use and was recommended by my vet for my horse with slightly sore heals to prevent damage

Wedges are the next step, if having a wider based web type shoe with a little bit longer based back on it does not work. We are trying this shoe for a couple weeks and if there is only minimal or no improvement then we are moving to the wedge.

If his heels are underrun, that can certainly be one cause of heel pain.

My horse has heel pain and while I have not done an MRI to confirm it, we are pretty sure he has bursitis or inflammation of the DFT, somewhere under the navicular bone. I have him in 2 degree wedge pads (with a normal rim shoe) and we recently injected his coffine joint which made a HUGE difference for him.

In my case, his feet are in great shape, so it's not a trimming / shoeing problem.

My sister's horse has sore heels. He has wedge pads and was just started on Smartpak Smartsox and Smarthoof. Want to get him some BOT bell boots too. Mine has a tender right toe, due in part to his pathetic TB type feet I think.
