Elite Veteran Posts: 1161	There's an up coming auction with 300 hundred or so horses I have been looking for a kids horse for my daughter and was Thinking about heading there to look maybe buy. I however haven't been To a sale in a while. Was thinking about taking someone with me to get there opinion as well.. Opinions, advice, stories would be greatly appreciated.

Elite Veteran Posts: 1100 Location: Southeastern Idaho	I bought two young horses this year at auction. A yearling and a weanling. I love shopping! I can't do it very often so I try to make it as fun as possible. I took someone with me both times whose opinion I trust. Take time to go through the catalog before you get there and have a short list. Saves you time. Once you get there go directly to those horses and look them over...then adjust your list if needed. When bidding, have your limit in mind and stick to it. Good luck and have fun!

If you are hitting up the sale in KS - there is a preview time in which you can actually ride last I knew.

Ima Fickle Fan Posts: 3547 Location: Texas	Depending on the age of child and ability level, I would be hesitant to buy a horse at a sale. I'd have way too many questions and concerns. Of course, we're looking for a beginner safe horse for our boys and are overly picky. If the child is a good rider and it's a reputable sale, then it might be a different story.

People that drug up the horses or use any kind of shady drug to sedate the horse do it about an hour or so before they go in the ring... If a seller won't let you look at the horse up close or touch the horse... You may want to second guess the horse. I used to sell at auctions all the time. I never doped mine up because I didn't have anything to worry about, but some people do it. Just be careful. I loved meeting and greeting people that were interested in my horses. I gave me a peace of mind knowing they were going to someone who cared. Good Luck!!!
