| How's the competition, are most people just weekend jackpot locals? Are there competitive, larger amounts of money incentive races? Give me all the scoop! Thanks, y'all! |

| Colorado is very tough. At any given jackpot, there is no telling who will be there. Carol Crowder produced the Mile Hi series where you can run against tough pro girls on any given weekend. Laura Lambert produces the No Brakes races. Again, you will be running against tough pro girls at anyone of her races. Burns Ranch does a lit of combined BBR, No Brakes and their own Nuthin But Barrels series. Down south in the summer the McNight family puts on races that are really tough. Honestly, CO is probably one of the toughest States around when it comes to barrel racing. Look at the names in the Mountain States Circuit. |

Location: Fort Collins, CO | AMEN to the above post! just scroll through the results of the Mile Hi finals weekend---and other weekends you'll see we've had Brittany Pozzi at some races, Kelly Yates at a lot of them, Christy Loflin if you want to hear NFR names.
We have tough girls who live around here---but let me tell ya the races are FUN! The No Brakes Tour at Spicer's Arena is awesome as well and draws a tough crowd.
On the western slope Mile Hi has a circuit over there so more races are popping up every year.
I also believe Colorado is one of the toughest states in the Mountain States Circuit.
Great producers, great arenas, great ground and FUN!

| Colorado has fast horses, I thought barrel horses were only fast if they came from tejas?
Chamber arena has some of the best outdoor ground you will see around the frontrange. I think they run from mid April through the end of Aug and its a Wednesday night jack pot with saddles for the year end awards. |

We have some good and tough barrel races here. I know it is technically not in " Colorado" but Lana Sulkey puts on the Barrels for Bucks series and there are some in the Delta area and then she does some on Moab which is pretty close to you. And then the Racing in the Rockies series is another good one on the Western slope. As well as CWBRA who does a series. Hope that helps :) |

Location: Durango CO | I am located in Durango which is literally in the SW corner of the state. I am 3 hours from moab Utah, an hour from Farmington NM, 4 hours from Flagstaff AZ, and 4 hours from Grand Junction CO. Every year I write up an excel spreadsheet of all the races within an 8 hour drive of Durango (which includes denver, amarillo, and if traffic is good even Vegas) I always have a list of around 100 races to go to and a large portion of those are 2-3 day races. A large chunk are on the western slope which does include moab ut.
I have not been to the big mile hi races or others mentoned(long story short, no horse) but I have friends that go and they have a blast and always comment on how well the races are being run. Mile hi have really good reviews and really now hoW to run a race. Now that I have a horse that is seasoned enough to go to the big races north of me I will be going to as many as possible next year. The one thing that I think is annoying about my local races is that 97% of the people who run (avg of 50 race entries) do 2-3 exhibitions and so 2/3 of the entire day is spent wasted on exhibitions. Even the races in Rifle Co (were slope) don't take that long!! I find exhibitions so annoying! |
