| So after many trials and experiments using certain products, both my vet and I have concluded my mare does better on a B-vitamin supplement. That supplement currently is Lixotinic. That crap is expensive lol. I found an injectable that can also be given orally. I have never used it before so I am a little weary but I need to find something that is not $150/ month. I am more comfortable with injectables but I will not inject a b-vitamin shot. I have hear many horror stories. This injectable says it is OK to give orally. I guess my question is does that sound like a lunatic idea? lol |

Location: Here | For what's it worth my opinion is you get what you pay for. I also believe you get the best out of a supplement when given as designed So, if your horse is performing and doing well on Lixotonic then I would not change it If they are performing and doing well It will save you money in the long run. Vet bills can get expensive real quick

| Clovite is a very bioavailabile form of B12 you might look into....the one your currently using can be hard on their stomach according to some vets |

| I used to feed one of my horses vit B sumplment. He was so much better on it, not as nervous way brighter coat.
Anyway through talking to a different horses decided to treat him for hind gut ulcers. You can not scope for these. The majority of vit b absorption happen in the hind gut, and because his had ulcers he could not adiquitly absorbe enfough through feed alone so i had to feed extra.
Once the ulcers were treated i no longer needed vit B
That experince tought me, you should not need to feed extra if your feed is not lacking in it. If your having to pour sumplments and extras into your horse something is not right inside. If thier guts are healthy they generaly do not need all this extra stuff.
*NOTE - im not talking joint support and stuff like that i mean basic nutrients that should be in feed or the components are in feed and synthesized internally. |

Funny you say that, my mare, this horse, has been confirmed hind gut ulcers via the succeed test. I bought the succeed and this morning will be her 3rd day on it. What did you use to treat and what did you do after to keep the hindgut ulcers away? I am loving the sound of succeed but it's $100/month. Which alone is not bad but on top of joint supps and such it's adds up. If it's really my only option I will bite the bullet and do it but if there is another way?
I thought about 60-90 days on succeed and slowly switching to more of a preventative but I am educated on gastric ulcers, not really hind gut... |

Location: Florida.. | I agree I would treat ulcers .. even if I had to stop all extra supplements.. sometimes we overdo the supplements anyway..
get ulcers under control then reevaluate. |

Thank you. That is my game plan as of now. Only other stuff she is on is a multivitamin/ mineral because she eats RG and it is not a "complete" feed. My joint stuff is injectable so I don't think it effects her belly. It might, heck I have learned so much the past few weeks about what effects their guts. |

Oh your right, its $150 a gallon and I give an oz a day so I guess it is cheaper than I was thinking. Blonde moment. It just kind of bothers me that its assumed that she just "needs" to be on a b-vit supplement. There has to be an underlying cause. |

To answer your question ill have to go look at what that vet prescribe u cant rember she was so good though, and was really into homeopathic treatments as well. For Marian we used alovera and seabuckthorn i belive ill have to double check again. That was many years ago! But the lesson has stuck with me, you should never need to dump stuff into your horse with quality feed. |

I am familiar with the homeopathic remedies for gastric ulcers but not hind gut. It's whole new ball game for me.. |
