I was wondering if anyone has had the suede seat in their saddle switched out for something else. I am wanting to have a new saddle put in my Pozzi saddle. Has anyone had it done? Do you know on average what it might cost? Thanks!

I have heard pricing anywhere from $300-600 to have it done. Call the manufacturer of your saddle brand and find out how much they would charge to do it. Or a local saddle maker.

A couple years ago I had a new seat done - went from smooth leather to suede. It cost $200. I used the Allen Ranch Saddle shop in Bixby, OK. They did a good job and you would never know it wasn't the original seat.

Speaking as a saddle maker. i know it is difficult to do. You have to take apart almost the whole saddle to do this. That is why it is so expensive.

If you do get a croc seat I highly recommend getting a real one and not a printed one. I have one in my pozzi and it was very pretty when I got it but over the years it has gotten dry and some of the print has worn off. I condition it regularly with black rock.

I had a friend get a quote to switch our her ostrich seat for suade. I think she said it was around $250 and that was from a local saddle shop
(maybe G-G
)

We had Caldwell switch out a slick as sh** goatskin seat to the sticky elk seat. Cost us $350 to do it, but have never regretted.

Double J replaced a broken tree in a Pro Racer for me...In order to do that they had put in a new seat and leather wrapped the horn
(at my request
). Cost me $750 for everything. Seems like the seat
(which was inlaid suede
) was in the $150 ball park. Don't quote me though. They were really nice to work with; if you give them a call they could probably give you a quote.

I would venture to say that you got a deal on the seat replacement because they already had the saddle apart to replace the tree. I asked my husband
(saddlemaker
) and he said it should run anywhere from $250 - $350.....depending on the "skin" needed for the seat and whether or not you want a whole seat or an inlay, etc. Some exotic skins are pretty pricey!

You're probably right!! My dad makes some tack as a hobby and materials are expensive!
