 A horse should do that off body language.  I say this because mine will round up and collect in a bit, his halter or his hack.

I view training aids as just that, an aid. He collects but he prefers hackamores over bits and I would just like one that helps keep him collected- I really do not feel that this is an unreasonable or a poor horsemanship question.

 I like the Carl hack from L&W bits.  My horse seems to like it.  He also prefers hacks to bits.
