Which futurities are your top picks when you are only going to run a couple and not try for everyone throughout the year? Which ones have incentives for the amateurs? Which ones are the better ones for 5 yr old futurity horses?

hmmmm... I would like to know as well. I think for me, realistically I can aim for diamonds and dirt, JB futurity in waco, and some Wrapn3 ones. I would like to enter fort smith and/or LG pro classic if i had a 4YO i thought would compete but idk how many i can afford. I haven't even thought about the AZ ones

Jud's and JB for sure....  Someday I'd like to go to Diamonds & Dirt.  You can run at OKC as a 4 yo for their first futurity and then compete on them the folllowing year up to Dec.

You should really look at Parker Wood Memorial in Utah next September!  You couldn't ask for a better facility and the money paid back was awesome.... parkerwoodmemorial.com

It really depends on where you live and how much your wanting to travel and how ready your horse is. I think for the money going to AZ in Jan gets you alot of bang for your buck because there are 4 in a row all at the same facility. So you go, spend the month without having to travel more and run 4 in a row. All 5 yr old futurities, and all 2D. In the early spring in the NW you again can hit a couple in a row. In dec, the very first futurity of the year as it's the first weekend of dec is the C-N futurity. Low keyed, 2D and great added money and by far the cheapest to enter. I think that one is like $150 to enter. The AZ futurities in jan in Buckeye are all like $600 to enter each. Not counting the opens.

Over here in the NW you hit some of the NW spring futurities (Sand Cup,VGBD, Idaho in the summer etc) and if you can afford it and have a good one you head to AZ in Jan.

In this part of the country there aren't many 5 year old futurities. I would determine how much I wanted to spend on entry fees, how far I wanted to travel, and payout. You must have your Amateur card in AQHA or APHA in order to qualify for the amateur incentives. That means you must be a current member on one of those organizations.

When figuring costs for the futurities be sure that you figure in costs to park (RV hookup) and stall fees. Sometimes the stall fee for futurity horses is in the entry fee but not always. If you get an extra stall as a feed stall, that is going to cost you more.

The JB Futurity and Diamonds and Dirt are for 5 year olds. Those are the only two in my area that are for 5 year olds that I know of.

Haven't been in awhile but my picks would be LG,D&D, Ft Smith, and JB. Ft Smith and D&D were my favorites.
