What are the likes and dislikes of Greenville, Sulphur Springs, Paris, Mt. Pleasant area?  Info on schools too, please!

If you could choose one of the above areas to live, which would be your preference and why?  Thanks!

Don't know much about Paris. Sulphur Springs does have a university which is a branch of TAMU I think. To me Sulphur Springs is kind of desolate. Mt Pleasant is a nice clean town. Greenville is a clean town. One thing I would consider is the medical facilities in each town--hospital, specialists etc. If you have to drive a long distance to go to the doctor, it is not convenient at all. From where I live it is 50 miles to a decent hospital. A general pain in the butt if you have to have test run or an injury or surgery.

I live between Greenville and McKinney and the one thing I would change is the black dirt - it turns to black clay when wet and is a booger to get out of horse hair/mane/tail. Not fun. I believe the soil starts getting more sandy the further north and or east (or even south if you can go that far) that you go. Never lived in another of the other towns mentioned, but have passed through them - I would think they are all similar, varying by amenities according to city population size.

TEXAS rates their schools. You should be able to call and ask what rating they have earned. You need to be aware that these towns have more than one e!ementary school and because of location and their ratings can vary greatly. I was trying to very politcally correct here. Mt Pleasant does not have the black dirt which certainly is a problem.

I am in Mt. Pleasant & in all honesty I would say don't move here if you are young and want a community that is 'forward thinking'.   If you are a retiree & incredibly conservative, then it's probably just right for you.  I would choose Sulphur Springs or Greenville over MP anyday.  All 3 have good schools.

Sulphur Springs has better schools and probably more horse people around there than Greenville.  Greenville is growing rapidly and has several big names stores and restaurants opening.  Sulphur Springs is having that kind of growth, but they did remodel the downtown and it is pretty cool.  As far as employment, not just a ton in any of the small towns in NE Texas, but there is L3 in Greenville as well as a few other decent sized companies, and there are several medium sized companies in Sulphur Springs as well.  The commute to the metroplex for work would be too difficult for me from either of those towns.  I like it down around Terrell/Kaufman/Canton.  Not too far from Tyler, not terribly far from the Metroplex, and closer to the arenas where most of the events in this area are held.

I live in Emory which is 20 minutes from SS and 30 minutes from Greenville. I was born and raised in SS and went to a small country school about 10 minutes from town in the community of Miller Grove. Sulphur Springs has grown a lot in the past few years, they are big enough they will be getting a starbucks soon. I love the area and you cant go wrong with any of the smaller surrounding areas either like Cumby, Miller Grove, North Hopkins or Como. They all have great schools. Miller Grove is small I graduated in 2009 with 13 others and my sister had 15 in her graduating class last year. Out of all the areas you listed, IMO sulphur springs is the best.

ETA: Commerce has a small "tech center" for the Paris Jr College. Commerce has the branch of Texas A&M

We live in between Kaufman and Canton and love it, beautiful big oak trees and sandy loam soil.  I don't know anything about the schools as we don't have kiddos.

Herbie, you and hubby NEED to move our direction!!!

I'm from the Greenville / Lone Oak area. The schools in Lone Oak are really good. I believe the high school is one of the top schools in the state, or it was about 5 years ago or so. There's not a whole lot of things to do in the area, but Greenville is growing very fast.
