I've had bunion surgery and wondering if anyone has had it. How long did it take you to start riding and wearing boots?

I hope you get an answer. My doc told me it would be quick and easy. Just a few days in a special boot. I'm thinking...

I had bunion surgery and also had a "hammer toe" on the same foot fixed. If I remember correctly, I was in a boot and crutches for 6 weeks. I must say the bunion part was pretty easy, but the other toe I had done was painful! After I was out of the boot, I started back going to the gym (riding stationary bike, etc) to help with the rehab. At the time, my horse was recovering from an injury and was at rehab facility too. My surgery was in mid-February and I think I started riding again the end of April. Now, had my horse not been away, I probably would have started riding as soon as I could get my foot in my boots. I've never had any issues from the surgery. I bet you rebound pretty quickly! Good luck!

I rode within a few weeks but it took about 6-8 weeks before I could get a regular boot on comfortably. Just don't slack on your PT!

Here is a dyed in the wool, 100% verifiable truth

Podiatrists are sadist and liars

I have terrible feet and have had foot surgery two times. Both times the lieing sadistic f told me it was not big deal.

Think of the most painful thing you can imagine, and multiple it by 100 then you will know how foot surgery feels.

My mom had it done on one of her feet.  She had the bunion removed and the toe was broke and then reset with a screw too.   I don't remember the exact details but I feel like she was in a boot with crutches for several weeks and it was quite painful at first.

Also I know my mom has not had her other foot done.  I am not sure if she just hasn't had time, that foot isn't as bad as her other or she just doesn't want to go through it again...

I had my big toe and pinky toe done in one shot last December.  I think I was riding by March 1.  It was crazy painful for the first couple days.  Like as in, I couldn't make pee come out because it hurt so bad.  But then again, I can't take pain pills because they make me puke.  After 3 days, the pain was easily tolerated.  Long term, I am SO glad I had them fixed.

I was six weeks recovering and it did hurt.  It was, however, a very good choice.  Mine was filed down and a screw put in it.  I have zero trouble to this day and the surgery was back in '02!  Good luck!

I had it done too. I have a pin and multiple screws in there now, it was a fairly bad bunion (for being mid-20s!)
It was Very painful for the first few days. I slept a lot and took pain meds (they make me sick too so I did that as little as I could get away with)   I was on crutches maybe 3 weeks, then a boot for a few more...  I know it took awhile for the swelling to come out of my foot. Sounds weird but the "thick" way, top to bottom. Severely lacked the flexibility to get into a boot for a bit.  To this day I don't have the same level of mobility in that joint.  Haven't had a problem with it since though.
The surgery was quick and easy.  I remember when they took the cast off for the first time I started bawling because it looked like someone else's foot.
so be ready for that. haha!

I need it done on both feet! My right foot is way worse than my left though. I've been putting it off because I just can imagine not being up and on my feet doing everything that needs doing around here! I do hate my feet tho.. I refuse to wear anything that shows my barefoot and forget about getting pedicures
