We are a small club. This season we thought we would host a payback barrel class
What are some rules that we should have in place for just this particular class.
We have our general rules but !!!!

Thanks

I bet their "club" doesn't pay money back. so she wants to know how to put on a race that pays money back, maybe....

Im assuming they NORMALLY award ribbons, trophies, etc. Sounds like they want to award cash this time.

Up here saddle clubs don't allow over and unders, but sometimes will for a jackpot/payback class so make sure that rule is announced/posted before the class starts one way or the other.

We go to some smaller fun shows that also incorporate some sort of "open" payback class. I prefer the one's that will allow rolling one's time from say the regular class event to the payback, just by paying both fees. This allows those who are really just running for points/ribbons/fun to enter the payback class without running twice. Some of the clubs here that run shows on a regular basis will even swap out what class is being offered for payback between barrels, poles and maybe down & back.

You would need to decide in advance how you are going to do the payout:
straight payout for a number of places usually depending on number of entries
or
some sort of divisional payout based off split times.

You would also need to think about what the entry fee would be and if there is going to be some sort of added money. To keep from having any confusion all of this need to be printed on any show bills, in my experience people that come to run for money are a little fussier than those just out to run for fun.

This only works if the barrels are staked......I would venture to say that most smaller ribbon/club shows, etc are not that particular.

There are other ways to ensure consistent barrel placement without staking. Plus most of the small shows are not pulling the barrels and dragging.
