They are used to crowds, horses, noise etc. When my Husband was still alive, we'd saddle and head for the "hills" and just let them "be". We'd just ride, no pressure, no "picking", just ride. As the ride went on and they settled some maybe we'd circle a bush or something to change a little. There might be a moment or to of "jigging" but usually they settle and just walk and look. The biggest thing that they are used to is a "job", so we'd give them one - lets go for a ride :) loose rein, time to just be "a horse" |

Location: Heart of Texas | Started all my OTT w/o a round pen. We did so much slow stuff to get the brakes working first we didn't go past a trot for awhile. Plus the open air is great for their minds after such a stressful career. |

| I bought a filly last fall and have just been riding her outside. I did lunge her a few times and also had per ponied before I got on her. Rode her around the yard until I felt comfortable and worked on her face. She's been completely fine. Hopped around some and a little dancey once in a while but I've got really good face control and brake on her. She might be the exception as she's really quiet, calm and smart. Probably had a really good start on her before she ran. With that being said I have not really asked for work at the trot or lope at all. Don't have an arena to ride in either so will probably haul out to work on that. For now she's just pasture/field riding. |

| Fortunately my OTT horse was BROKE BROKE before he went to the track. So when he came back he wasn't so bad. I did give him 30 days to just be a horse and let him come DOWN from all the CRAP he was being fed. He was in a small stall and was being fed crazy amounts of omelene 200 etc. He was getting worked but still. lol |

 Own It and Move On
Location: The edge of no where | Several of them. I always got them home from the track and just rolled on with it. I never used a round pen on any of them. |

I am a fan of this also. Years ago a friend of mine claimed a horse. He was delivered late in the evening so they put feed and water in their round pen and left him there for the night. The next morning he was not even on the ranch. He had jumped out. As luck would have it, it had rained for a few days and they followed his tracks with an airplane. They found him on a neighbors place. That horse ended up being a lesson horse for little kids, so they can come off of the track and change completely. |
