Just a curiosity post. What do you prefer for an off billet and cinching up your girth? I like some leather but I'm really picky if it adds too much to where my legs are, so I usually go for simple black off billets and whatnot.

Leather, I like the look and the feel of it better. Of course, you have to clean it and check it more often.

Nylon latigos. Still slides easily in cold or humid situations. Less maintenance.

Nylon 100%. Ive had brand new leather off billets break on me before and I have also been apart of a very bad accident when one broke. I oiled them regularly and checked them daily. Never again will I have leather off billets or latigos.

Depends on the cinch.  If it's mohair, I don't mind nylon.  I might be the exception, but I prefer leather.  I check it and oil it often, but I like the "give" that it has for the expansion of the horse's chest when it breathes.

I had an NFR gal tell me once that I should make sure that at least one of my billets is leather. She doesn't think that if both billets are nylon they will allow enough "give" for the horse.

Nylon latigo and leather off billet.

I used to use leather for both but leather latigos are tough to work with sometimes in the cold cold. Nylon goes smoother but I do like the leather off billet.

I use a leather off billet and nylon latigo. Like others have said its easier when its colder, plus easier to clean off when they get nasty sweaty. I did see on my new corriente the off billet that came with it was leather on the outside and nylon on the inside. Im not sure how i feel about it yet.

I never feel any difference. Nylon comes in pretty colors, so that would be my first choice I suppose.

I'm in South Georgia, the humidity capital of the world, and I prefer nylon for this reason. Easier to tighten cinch. Less bulk.
