15 y/o gelding who hasnβt always ever really had that jaw dropping full topline dropped about 40lbs in his topline in about 2 months. Heβs on pasture and gets alfalfa at feed time and is on bluebonnet omega force and DAC oil.
Any ideas how to build the topline? He isnβt skinny at all, just need to build topline? Hasnβt been ridden since first weekend of June.
Friend thinks maybe treat for EPM?

I second the epm treatment. My mare lost her top line when she had epm. That was the only symptom she showed and it took us a while to diagnose.

When was the last time he was wormed or powerpacked? I worked for a horse rescue a few years and very often topline issues were first associated with worm issues.

Once EPM and any soreness issues are ruled out to prevent himself from carrying himself properly, I would say backing is the one of the best things you can do. Like a lot lol. 1 step forward= 2steps back. Within reason of course but it will strengthen their whole back and hindend creating more power and help prevent soreness issues down the road. I've seen it alone transform horses backs. Its a main focus in my conditioning and helps my guy a bunch who has a long back and tends to get strung out. Hope this helps! :

Make sure he doesn't have ulcers, that will take the top line right off them.

Animal Element Detox is awesome on toplines. I had an older mare that really never kept a great topline, I added this to her feed in within two weeks I saw a huge difference. Great all around supplement too.

Dan is obviously not being ridden anymore, but I truly believe I can see a difference in his back and hips. Of course, it could just be the added weight!!!!
