| My family and I are finally going forward with our bucket list vacation..the NFR! We’ve never been to Vegas before. We are staying at the MGM. Will be staying there Dec 6-9. Attending the perf Saturday night. What are your recommendations on places to eat/sight see? I’ve heard good things about the PBR restaurant. We aren’t into big ‘fancy’ restaurants necessarily. Is Cowboy Christmas happening right around the T&M?

Location: Golden Gulf Coast of Texas | The original Cowboy Xmas is at the Las Vegas convention center. You can take the monorail to it since it starts at MGM. There is another show at The Sands Convention Center right behind The Venetian and you can also ride the rail there. The other big show is at Mandalay Bay. These are the largest but I think there is another downtown. I love Bobby Flay’s Mesa Grill in Caesars. Also for breakfast everyone needs to try Hash House A GoGo in the Linq. |

| The PBR Rock Bar and Grill is okay. It is like what you would expect typical bar food to be, with a high price tag. The atmosphere is fun though. The Cabo Wabo Cantina right next to it has really good food (at least when I was there it did) but again, none of those on strip places to eat will be cheap. Just know that when you go. |

Nothing in New Vegas is cheap. The days of value out of a casino are gone and replaced with pretense over substance.

Location: In The Land of Cotton | We stayed at the Signature and rode Lyft everywhere, not the monorail. The most expensive fare was to South Point at $13. So, I would not get a car. The longest wait was 5 mintues for a Lyft. NFR has an app you can down load on your phone. It tells you were all the shopping is. We made a "plan" before hand and kinda followed it as to what we wanted to see.
The food is terribly expensive even at chain restaurants.

Location: Georgia | We went last year. There is a lot to see and ALOT of shopping, prepare to be overwhelmed. Make a list of vendors you want to see, The Stetson Country Christmas in the Sands is huge and the Cowboy Christmas is even bigger.
I LOVED the Hash House A GoGo for any time of the day. Also the Taco Bell cantina was pretty cool too. For night life we really enjoyed Freemont street (old Vegas) its a must see. Also the Southpoint is cool too.
At the Rodeo depending on your seats make sure to take your glasses! It sure goes by fast.
Edit to say Uber and Lyft are your best friends. Cheaper than a cab and you can time out your pick up

Location: Arizona | We stayed at the MGM during the NFR as well. I recommend taking the hotel shuttle to the T&M, however, when the show is over you have to wait on the shuttle out in the cold. Make sure you bring a jacket as it's cold at night. Also, at the MGM in the Grand room they have the NFR on a big movie screen. It was great to go in there and watch it each night. Make sure you bring comfy shoes as you will be doing A LOT of walking. The Convention Center is overwhelming, it will take you all day to get through it. We rode the monorail there but it was a pain carrying all the stuff we bought. Plus the monorail is sometimes working and sometimes it's broke, lol! We usually brought snacks and kept them in our hotel, it saved on constantly buying food, it's pricey to eat in Vegas. |

Location: CTX | We ussualy eat a big breakfast. During the day we go shopping... a lot.... and it is a lot of walking. Around lunch time we get a snack to tide us over to diner. (the mini donuts that are made fresh at the different places are soooooo good!!) Also we go to Walgreens to get soda's and other drinks. Yes they sell booze at Walgreens.. hehehe First year we took the mono rail, but the last 4 or 5 years we just take a cab when we go to South Point and Freemont street. Hash house a gogo is great! Also if you like steak, my favorite one is Andiamo in the D hotel (on Freemont street). There is a tent set up behind the D where there is a viewing party every night, free of charge. And most hotels will have viewing parties but better get there early because they are packed by the time the rodeo starts. Enjoy yourself!!

Location: North Dakota | We've gone a few times, stayed at Mandalay Bay, MGM, and last year New York New York. Like another poster said we would eat a big breakfast and that'll tide you over for the day. We'd snack on fudge, the cinnamon nuts, or whatever you like at the tradeshows, and then we'd go for dinner. Alcohol is super expensive if you're buying from the bar, so I highly recommend pre-dinner beverages purchased from Walgreens, which is right down the street from MGM. If you're into doing a nice dinner my husband and I went to Bobby Flays restaurant last year and OMG it was so good. Spendy, but well worth it. We also like Wolfgang Puck's restaurant in MGM and I think they also have Emerils. All really good.
The MGM in the past had their own live feed, if they have one get there early.
In the past we've taken cabs and the mono rail for the shopping and to go to the South Point, but last year we Uber'd everywhere and it worked out great. It's less than a cab and quicker than the monorail. Also, wear comfortable shoes; you'll do A LOT of walking around the tradeshows...they are HUGE. Plan for an entire day to shop the convention center...it'll take you a half a day or so to get through Country Christmas at the Sands. And most important....Have fun:)

Location: Texas | I say Lyft or rent a car. The monorail is at the very back of all the casino's it stops at and so when we took it, there was a LOT of walking. The trade shows are awesome, but like everyone else said huge. My favorite is Mandalay Bay or Sands. The Convention Center is a lot better now that it's in the new part instead of where it used to be. There are lots of events going on at the Convention Center upstairs in the arena, like the Junior NFR and then there's also an Outdoor/Hunter's Expo there too. We love to eat at Cheesecake Factory in the Forum Shops at Caesar's and South Point has lots of good restuarants (Coronado Cafe, Steak & Shake, & a few others). We like In and Out Burger too, and sometimes we eat a big breakfast at places off like Denny's and then don't eat until dinner. Also we will go off the strip like Chili's or Olive Garden which are about typical prices and not Vegas type prices. We stay at South Point, but their Ram room is one of the best places to watch the rodeo if you aren't going to the actual performance at Thomas and Mack. The fountains at Bellagio are a must to see at night. We like riding the High Roller at the Linq at night. Make sure to read the regulations for bag/purses for the night you're going to the rodeo. It's on the NFR Experience app and on the website too. |
