Get in good with someone who has made it and knows how, where and when to enter would be my suggestion.

This! It's not just about what rodeos you enter. It's where you enter, which days you enter, if you're in slack or a perf, etc... There are girls who have hauled for years and still haven't truly learned the art of entering and knowing how to do it well is a huge game changer!

Ditto to finding someone that knows how to enter. But honestly, I don't think WHEN you get up is as important in barrel racing.  Regardless, the cans are stationary, and you can't determine the weather.  I understand getting entered up as a roper and the importance of that, but I don't get it for barrel racing.  I guess you need to decide if your horse runs better in slack or a perf and shoot for that, but either way, it's not as tricky as trying to get up as a roper when you have to consider the runs on the calves.

There are definitely rodeos that are known for having better ground either early, or later in the rodeo. As Trevor said "I guess you can't just reach when you draw bad ground in the barrel racing".

Know the kind of ground your horse runs best on look for those type conditions. Some horses don't run free in buildings and you need to stay away from those setups. Some horses excel in 3 go's some can't run back to back. You really need to know you horse(s). If your horse can handle all the trailer riding shoot for as many 5K and up rodeos that you feel he can handle. It really seems the gals that did good up in the Canadian rodeos in May-July hit a lick to add $ to their NFR totals. I've talked to girls and asked them when they were up as I saw that they won $ last year before entering. I really feel that a horse needs to run in and on all conditions to make a pro rodeo horse. I've seen arena conditions be nothing like what they were the year before. The hardest thing to do is for me to pay my fees and drive away from a rodeo that is 2000 miles from home but somedays you just need to do that to protect your horse.

You might want to set a goal to make your Circuit Finals and really hit your circuit rodeo with several side trips out of your circuit.

I've wanted to run at Pendelton and took vacation this year to do just that. (Bucket list) I'm seasoning a colt and hope that he will be ready to play with the wolves as thats whats left come September! I'm going to call Darlene Kasper as her horse Tally and this colt have very like MO's. It will help me to enter up late August and September (I took a month off). Once you get out there and meet a few gals you'll run into some that are very helpful.

PRCA puts out a top 100 added $ rodeo paper you might want to take a look at it.

I would also make sure you enter over the 4th of July. Don't let that stretch of a couple weeks go to waste.

Try to find a good match for you to haul with. you will find out really quick on the road if y'all will get along or not. And I also suggest to be on top of the rodeos you are entering- don't just trust it to someone else!
