Anyone know a quicker way to change light leather to something darker? I had three conversations with the saddle maker and was very clear that I wanted the saddle to be darker than the jockeys and fenders. I do not like light leather tack.

I would let the saddle maker fix it.

It's a trophy saddle.  I doubt I have much ability to get another saddle.

If you oil it , it will be dark in a heart beat. If you wait it will darken as you ride it. I wouldn't do the dye the saddle has a heavy shall coating and it will be hard to get an even look. If you must darken oil from the back side or underneath.

Are you wanting it like a chocolate color or just a darker shade? Don't do shoe polish, it will come off and make a mess. Neatsfoot, Black Rock, or other oiling products will darken it a little at a time. That way you can control how much you darken it. Let it soak in a coat at a time for a day or so. Otherwise, take it to that saddlemaker your friend's recommend and I'm sure he can do it for you.

Daisy - I need to get out to Skeeters for some repairs!

I'm wanting a warmer, medium-like color, not chocolate, but a nice constrast between the fenders/jockey and saddle.  This saddle is LIGHT, no contrast.  I slathered it in corn oil this morning and neatsfoot tonight.  If we ever stop precipitating and get sunny I will slather it up and set it out in the sun and hope for some darkening.  I've done it with a breastcollar once and it worked well.  I was joking earlier on fb that I could give it a mud bath today real easy, but it would mess up the pretty blue seat!  LOL!

Some 100% Neatsfoot oil will darken it. After you oil it a few times it will look light regular light oil as opposed to the natural color it is now.
