Location: west of East Texas | The competition bit on G is the Million Dollar dog bone snaffle with short shanks. G is really easy to handle and likes a really light touch when she's running. At home we've been riding her in an O-ring snaffle for a couple of years to just long trot, work on horsemanship, circles, etc. About a month ago, G decided she doesn't want the O-ring and just keeps her teeth clamped and lifts her nose up when my daughter tries to put the bridle on. The daughter is a short 11yo so if the horse wants to, she can easily keep her head just out of reach. I can always get the bit in without much fuss but it's obvious G is telling my daughter not to use the O-ring. She readily accepts the Million Dollar with her head down really low, low enough for my daughter to see over her neck. Her teeth were checked about two weeks ago. There are no issues with her running barrels or poles. It is just easy riding around the house. What are some of y'alls choices for just goofing around at home in? |

| I ride my "good" mare in a loose ring dogbone with copper rollers or a hackamore. I could run her in baling string if I wanted to, she's so good.
The "blowout" gets ridden in a PC "derby" medium port pretzel or the CJ Rosebud with copper roller on trails. She has a busy tongue and will sometimes get her tongue over the bit, so she enjoys the roller. I have a very light hand so she seems comfortable in it.
My gelding is great in anything until he spooks. Then it doesn't matter. LOL |

| Is your O ring a dog bone? My gelding loves the two breaks in a bit so I have a copper o ring with a dog bone type mouth piece. Works much better in it and dont even use my other one anymore. I also use my half moon wonder bit at home with the copper. |

Location: NC | I run in a Little S hackamore.
So at home, I ride in a short shank lifter bit so I can work on bending and flexing and perfect circles. I ALWAYS flex my horses when I ride, regardless of whether we're doing serious work or just walking down the road, so I need my little lifter that keeps him supple.
He's super light, but likes to be stiff, so I use the lifter at home. And run him in a super light hack. Best of both worlds. LOL |

Location: North of the 49th Parallel | Bob Avila shanked correction (with a little bit of a higher port I believe). It was what she was derbied in when she was a reiner and just haven't changed. I run her in an o-ring (in a small pen) or a easy-six (in a big pen). |

| Is the Million Dollar bit a dogbone and the snaffle just a broken 2 piece? She may not like the snaffle due to the way it hits her in the roof of her mouth. Try a dogbone snaffle.
My guys ride in whatever's handy. Dogbone snaffle, Jim Warner Hackamore, competition bit (o ring combo dogbone) mullen lifter, chain mouth, or sometimes a halter. I like to change it up depending on what I'm doing. 95% of the time though it's the hackamore. |

Location: Washington | One gelding runs in a custom noseband bit, I ride/tune in a snaffle 99% of the time. If I work drills I will put him in a Easy 5 3-piece or The Rookie 3-piece.
My other gelding runs in either a hack or a snaffle. So when just riding he goes in a 3-piece dogbone and knows the difference between his riding bit and running bit.

Location: Phoenix | What's wrong with riding in the Million Dollar bit? It sounds like she likes that one because she lowers her head for it. I'm a big believer in riding in bits your horses like. They will tell you which ones they do and don't like. Mine always hesitates when I went to ride him in a square port roping bit or a snaffle but he grabs at the ported chain I've got.
I normally ride in something with a round port or a hackamore and my horse is happy so I'm happy !

| I agree with whoever said it could be the mouthpiece she doesn't like. Most snaffles are just broken once in the middle, causing it to hit the roof of the mouth. Try a Myler comfort snaffle. I haven't had one that doesn't like them yet.

| Is the snaffle pinching the corners of her mouth maybe? I had trouble with that happening to my gelding! |
