Location: oklahoma | We have a mare that has been converted from a roping horse to a barrel horse. She has now started bleeding on us. We run her on Lasix which is fine but when we go to work her during the week we can't really do a whole lot of speed work because even at a 3/4 speed she will sometimes bleed. I have used the Oxygen Bleed Stop and couldn't really see a difference. What has everyone else used and can you see a difference in your horse? It is hard to finish a horse out that you can't even work remotely hard during the week. |

| You may want to have her scoped and see if there's anything that may be causing her to be that bad of a bleeder. Such as inflammation, infection, ddsp etc. Especially if she's bleeding at only 3/4 speed. |

Location: Alberta, Canada | WHAT ARE YOU FEEDING HER? ALFALFA HAY IS NOT GOOD FOR A BLEEDER. GREEN GRASS DOES NOT HELP EITHER. |

did you give this horse time off and treat with antibiotics after the first time she bled? If no, that's half your problem.
i use THE pulmoneze religiously |

| I would scope her. She may have a guttoral pouch infection. Have you put her on antibiotics? And given her time off when she has bled? Also you might consider useing Aculife patches . I have also treated bleeders with the respond laser and Theraplate |

| Bleed Block, but I'd also have her scoped just for peace of mind. |

| Do not exercise at 3/4ths speed. I walk a lot between intervals and only go about 50% with mine. If you want to breeze your horse give lasix. The constant stress of them bleeding every time they exercise is not good for their lungs. |

Location: Wonderful Wyoming | Having never had a bleeder, I don't have a lot of advice. I will offer up the PulmonEZ idea because I am getting more and more customers that swear by it. Some are able to get completely off Lasix and some are scared too, but minimize the dosage with excellent results. Either way it is an all natural supplement that has a money back guarantee. The company really stands by their products! I have several bags ready to ship out, and will offer the free shipping for a little longer as it was the special for April. |

I have a bleeder, I have tried hemo-flo, oxy-gen bleed stop, with no luck. I worked with my vet and finally have a system that is working as he is a bad bleeder and will bleed thru straight lasix - I run him on lasix IV, and dex IM and chlorapromazine under tongue 30 minutes out, I also give him herbs (http://www.equinenaturalcare.com/Equine_Products.html) and I have been happy with that
#1 you have to have your horse in great condition by lots of trotting and loping so you can work them harder at home, I work mine at 3/4 speed but I dont get him breathing too hard or he will bleed - I might high lope to first and 2nd and 3rd and pull up coming out or I might send him hard to first and then pull up to the other barrels Work them gradually harder and eventually you will be able to get a good work out at home without bleeding, I do short sprints at home and let their breathing slow and then do another, they need the hard breathing to get the elasticity in the airway to help keep them from bleeding when you run them - the lungs and airway need to be conditioned to handle a run at a barrel race - you have to find that perfect medium of how hard you can work at home without over doing it and causing a bleed
My vet told me 20-30 minutes of long trotting 5 days a week and then some loping and short sprints - I worked up to that though
Good Luck |

Location: Sunny So Cal | Not sure how often your horse is bleeding but if your horse is bleeding weekly or monthly you need to give her time off so the capillaries can heal. The capillaries are supposed to be elastic enough to expand with the rush of blood. Instead they are breaking therefore bleeding and then form little scabs which breaks more easily the next time. In my opinion I would give 6-8 weeks off if it was my horse. I use THE Pulmon-EZ religiously as well. |
